Ok, I have a powermac g5 quad and i recently replaced its old graphics card with the ati radeon x1900 gt and after i did that the game wasn't able to play on my machine because of an apparent incompatibility between the game and the new graphics card. Frankly that isnt the thing that annoys me, what really gets to me is that this new card has been on the market for quite some time now and yet nobody has thought to release an update to the game in any sort of effort to expand the miniscule list of supported graphics cards. Whats worse is that the game site itself appears to be extremely outdated and doesnt mention anything of this issue. I mean i love the game and the whole franchise and all, but if i cant play it on my machine im certainly not going to take out my powerful new graphics card just to play one game half way decently. This lack of support and software updates is seriously a new low and it will definitely make me think twice about buying titles from this company in the future.

Have you tried the various graphics options available in the game? And sometimes Apple updates its driver files... you are probably using the X1900gt drivers from ATI, right? Are you running Mac OS X v 10.4.10, or an earlier version?

hmm, yeah i am using the ati graphics files for that card, im not sure if apple makes drivers for it but i will check, I'm using the latest mac os version as i check for updates almost religiously, I would try the different options in the game but all I can even get when i start the game is a black screen so i really cant even do much there.

Ok, heres the real low down, the game will play on my machine without giving me graphics trouble, but only on the absolute lowest default settings that it has. Now, i dont know about anybody else but the reason I spend 350 on a new graphics card is so i can make my nice games look better on my 30 inch, not so i can be forced to play them at the lowest possible settings. I also checked all over the apple site and the ati site for upgraded driver info and i believe that i have the latest ATI driver for the card. What would like to know is how to make it work on the highest settings possible for that game. I assume my machine can more than handle those settings because its a quad core g5 with 5 gigs of ram, and 2 500 gig hard drives, not to mention that ati x1900 gt graphics card

Anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering seem to cause the most problems with games, so setting AA and AF to 'off' or 'controlled by application' is a good first-pass way to go.

General and EoA in-game video setting changes are described in section 2 of Myst V: Miscellaneous Video Problem Fixes with Win XP. These changes are more or less generic and ought to work in a Mac OS environment. The basic premise is to start with the lowest possible settings and then move up one setting at a time.

Also, my Apple friends tell me that the recommended driver installation procedure for a new video card is to install the new driver before the new card goes into the machine. To get games to play properly in some cases where this wasn't done, they've had put the old card back in, uninstall the new driver, re-install the old driver, then install the new driver and the new card (in that order).

now, is there any way to start up myst V and have the settings go back to the defaults or possibly to have the opportunity to set them at the start of the game?? I remember in realMyst there was a key combination that you could press at startup and there would be a prompt and I'm wondering if there was such a way to do it on myst V as well.

Have you looked at Myst V: Miscellaneous Video Problem Fixes with Win XP? Assuming that the Mac version of EoA has the same menus as the Windows version, per section 2:
-- a. Start EoA and click on OPTIONS and then on VIDEO options, if that's not what you're looking at.
-- b. Click on Reset to Defaults, and write down where all of the sliders are positioned and which boxes are checked/unchecked.

AFAIK, that's as good as it gets. There are no key combinations I'm aware of.
