I am getting the same installation error with the installation of the Demo version. Installed the New Java and I did not find any other Java in my add/remove programs. Also followed the instructions to redo my Installshield. Also installed to a clean directory since I have other Myst Game installed. Consistantly getting the same error after installation is about 31% complete and begins to decompress the soundfiles.I am not going to roll back to SP1 as this is a lot of work and after reading the threads if may not work. I will try to reinstall in safe mode or with msconfig disabled services ect...Hopefully when I receive the installation CD it will work. Due to the fact that I am not using my DVD RW to install, so this narrows down the fist few Java workarounds posted here. Running old AMD 800mz with a Compaq motherboard 5900Z presario. I have installed a lot of Myst Games and others but never had this much trouble. In fact I have never had any problem installing any games.

Did you install Java from a clean boot as detailed in the stickied topic at the top of this Forum, Myst V: Java-related Installation Problem With Win XP?

Also, does your system meet *all* of the minimum requirements for Myst V? See Posting Guidelines and Myst V System Requirements.

Yes, exactly as outlined. Further, I also tried to reinstall with Msconfig set with not loading start up file, sys.ini win.ini etc or services.Again the same problem. Then I even tried to install it in safemode. Again, same exact problem. Apparently it needs to copy one file, and cant open this file. My guess is that this file that is in the demo and included in the CD has priveleges set incorrectly. Another possiblity is that it needs a file that is currently being used. What ever the reason it need to copy this file or installation ceases.I am not sure if this is an xp sp2 problem, but I suspect it is an issue with the oringinal file inclued in the installation. I have had files in the past that were unmovable due to properties being set wrong and or something is xp was accessing that file. I will see if the CD does the same thing when I receive it tommorrow. My guess is it will.

Well I needed to make a Reply to my above postings. I downloaded the Myast V Demo with a download manager from Gamespot and it installed perfectly the first time. I suppose someone hadebugged the demo file already. The one I downloaded direct from UBI Soft never did work. I hope the CD I ordered installs as nicely.
