I've got a Pioneer DVD-RW (DVR-A07XLB) that's two years old.
Can anyone tell me if it will or won't work? It seems weird they released a game that may not work with the hardware on probably 99% of the computers today. This forum looks to be very helpful though. Many thanks in advance.

Also, I have a question for Heimdall G. In your excellent general guide you suggest not to install SP2 if you're not having problems with SP1. That's my feelings exactly except SoundBlaster cards say SP2 is required. I think most games and probably this one too recommends SB cards and are required if you want advanced EAX. So, what to do? Do the new SB cards actually work with SP1? Thanks in advance and thanks for all your in depth replies.

What to do?

I'd recommend trying whichever SB card with SP1a (upgrade if you have SP1). If the card doesn't work properly, you can always install SP2.

Well. That's quite an endorsement coming from a forum that's sponsored by the developer. I can only interpret a no-reply as a zero percent chance it will work.

Try using the Find tab at the top of this page to search for DVR-A07XLB.

Also take a look at Myst V: Clean Boot Install/Re-install With Win XP, under Installing and Re-Installing EoA, "1. Preventing Installation Problems - General Comments", item f.

I'd like to point out that these forums are not run or even endorsed by Cyan, the developer, and are provided by UbiSoft merely as a courtesy. All technical support and assistance is provided by outside volunteers like Heimdall and myself. As such, it's highly likely that if you're the first person to inquire about a specific problem, we may not have a ready-made answer for you.

If you want to get an official response directly from UbiSoft, contact their support staff directly through http://support.ubi.com. Keep in mind, though, that Ubi's tech support has historically been less than helpful without a LOT of patience, and it may just be me being paranoid, but the common response to Myst-related inquiries tends to be more of a "you're on your own" attitude of late.

Thanks for the replies.

Alahmnat, your point is well taken . I do appreciate very much your dedication to helping others.

Heimdall, I had tried the search and there was one person reporting no luck with my exact same drive. I made another post with my drive name in the subject, hoping someone might see it who had success with my drive, but it has been deleted. I'm so impressed with your "clean boot/reinstall" document I have it bookmarked for future reference.

Thanks for the help. I didn't get the game working but I did get my money back. All the problems on this forum scared my off. I will give UbiSoft credit for making this forum available.
