Few things, firstly, I always seem to start in a random place. Secondly, the game won't load. When teh game first started I started on some island with no starting sequance and just a guy sitting on the beach. I couldn't figure out what to do so hit "Main Menu" there I got a starting sequance and sppeared in some hall. I found a blue ball (which apparantly saves the game) and a journal to write in.

From there I found a lady who spoke to me, I then appeared on an island with that guy again, this time he went on about how my journey would begin down the hole.

Anyway, I clicked the blue save thing here and nothing, quite the game, came back this morning and started in a teleport in the wrong **** place.

Any help please?

HI,

I have a strange feeling that you have not played many adventure games before. I do suggest you read very carefully the little booklet that came with the game, at least three or four times to get acquainted with all the options and commands possibilities.

Once you are in the game, it is a good idea to first explore as much as you can, to get the "big picture" and make many, many save game to be able, if you get stuck, to back track.

When in the game, you scan in the top right of the picture and a few items will appear. To save the game, you click on the little black sphere and click the 1st book at the left of the sphere ( adjacent ) it will open and under the new picture you should find a "flashing" | (vertical bar) cursor hot spot. You should the type in a personnal line-hint for you to recognize where you saved the game.

If Myst V is your first, you sure did not pick the easiest one!!! and mayby you should consider using a walkthrough. But be aware it would make it a much shorter game and not as mind buggling as it should be.

After experimenting, you could keep your saved games under the first player in the start menu and then start an all new game under the second player option.

I'm an avid adventure fan and have played many adventures.

For some odd reason, I see no main menu anyway. When I clicked the sphere I also clicked the book, yet no picture appeared.

This is my problem, not my lack of experiance in adventure gaming.

Please post what system you are using. If you're on a PC, the best thing to do would be to post a dxdiag report. Directions follow on how to do that.

To post a DxDiag report
------------------------
If you have already started a topic (aka "Discussion") about your problem in this Forum, please DO NOT start a new topic with your DxDiag report. Post the DxDiag report in your existing topic!

1. Press keys (win) + R, or click on Start > Run.
2. Type dxdiag in the box.
3. Click OK.
4. Let the blue bar in the lower left corner of the Dxdiag window finish crawling and disappear.
5. Run all of the tests you can on the Display, Sound and Music tabs. Do not neglect to do this step!
-- a. On the Display tab, click on the Test DirectDraw and Test Direct3D boxes, and follow the resulting instructions.
-- b. On all of the Sound tabs, click on the Test DirectSound box, and follow the resulting instructions.
-- c. On the Music tab, click on Test DirectMusic box, and follow the resulting instructions.
6. Click on the Save All Information button.
7. Close the DxDiag utility.
8. Now you have a DxDiag.txt file on your Desktop, or in the location where you have saved it.
Copy *ALL* of the contents of this file to the Windows Clipboard:
-- a. Double-click on the file to open it.
-- b. Right-click anywhere in the text, then click on Select All in the resulting menu.
-- c. Right-click on the highlighted text, then click on Copy in the resulting menu.
9. Paste the contents of the file from the Clipboard into a new post in your existing topic (or start a new topic, if necessary):
-- a. With the mouse cursor at the upper left corner of the Quick Reply to: box (or the Message: box for a new topic), type in an explanation of your problem.
-- b. Position the mouse cursor at the left margin and one line down from your explanation, then right-click.
-- c. Click on Paste in the resulting menu.
-- d. Click on Post Now.

Try re-installing EoA from a clean boot. See Myst V: Clean Boot Install/Re-install With Win XP, one of the stickied topics at the top of this Forum.

Is yours a shared pc? It seems that you don't have Administrator rights to create the new folder.

If you're playing the Myst V demo, you can't do any saving. Only with the full game can you save.

If you've installed the full game, the start icon is pointing to the wrong file, or you're clicking on the wrong start icon.

I found a "quick-fix" for some of the mentioned peobs. The DEMO "wants" to run with the "**** game" and vice-versa. I had to go into "my computer", open "folders" so you can see what you're doing. Find where you loaded the game and the Demo. (most likely, C:/Programs/Ubisoft) or something like that. I found 2 seperate files for Ubisoft (Myst V). Very carefully check your shared files to make sure nothing is being used by important other programs. (probably not) MAKE SURE you don't "empty" your recycle bin yet. Delete BOTH Ubisoft files containing both Myst V and it's Demo. Shut down and "cold start" your p/c. Reinstall Myst V from your disk(s). This should give you the ONE true starting point you need. After this is done and providing it works, make sure any other programs are in working order prior to emptying your recycle bin. If it doesn't work, you can "restore" from your recycle bin and all should return to where you left it and no harm done. (But yo may need to defrag to cluster your files again.
