I was just wondering if Myst V is going to work on DVD+R drives, because I know Myst IV didn't due to the anit-piracy thing.

Worked fine (eventually) in my DVD-RW/DVD+RW drive.

I had to disable my "region free" program first, though, which irritated me no end. (Because region locking is illegal.)

Actually, Myst IV did work on DVD+R drives, just not all of them (worked on mine). Myst V has "the anti-piracy thing", too, I'm sure.

Myst IV worked on my DVD-RW/DVD+RW drive, but Myst V says it can't find or authenticate original disk even though it is in the drive. Anything I can do without having to buy another drive?

Precisely the same thing here.

As per my previous post, "the anti-piracy thing" is definitely on Myst V, as it was on Myst IV, but Myst IV recognized a legitimate disk.

Apparently, it was just not meant to be, me playing this game. After having to pay $10 extra for items I didn't want (Limited Edition) just because I'm a Mac user, now this. I've had it.

Mac OS X 10.4 (or 10.4.2, whatever is the latest update -- I'm not on the offending machine right now...) Thanks.

Just finished reading all the posts about "EoA" crashing on Mac OS X, and the grim outlook for a patch. SO, I'm still thinking I've kissed sixty bucks goodbye even if I get the game to recognize that -- yes -- there IS an original disk in the drive.
This really, really sucks.

My PC has a sony DVD +-RW drive, and I had zero problems installing Myst V.

Monsieurdavid, I'd try selling the game on Ebay. Maybe then you'll get your money back.

Do you think everyone experiencing problems with this game should sell their copies, or discard them? Or do you think UbiSoft is in any way responsible for making the situation right? Just curious.
Also, have you read any of the previous posts on this thread? The discussion is not an installation problem, but rather a disc authentication problem (original game disc must be in the drive), and from my standpoint, a Mac issue, not a PC issue. But thanks anyway.

I'm having exactly the same problem with a top of the line Dell gaming machine. What are these morons thinking? I had no way of knowing that the game wouldn't work with my system, to the tune of $60, after supporting the franchise for 11 years. I'm disgusted and will never purchase another Ubisoft or Cyan product, in spite of being a huge fan. They have treated me like ****. How pathetic a way to end a long relationship with a loyal customer. It's over, and I will NOT be coming back, EVER.

I was just letting folks know that there is no disk authentication problem with the DVD drive I have.

As for UbiSoft - well, I had words with them regarding Uru - many many times. I do think UbiSoft should make the situation right, but they won't.

Is it worth your time & trouble to try to get them to do so? I no longer believe so - they won't do it - so sell the game (if you can) & buy something else - and not a UbiSoft product either.

With the exception of Myst V, which UbiSoft had in a Limited Edition that I couldn't find anywhere else, I no longer buy games directly from UbiSoft, but go elsewhere to buy them, thereby cutting their profit.

i have an old DVD-ROM drive laying around. I wonder whether Myst V would work from an external USB 2.0 or Firewire enclosure? Anybody know?

What I have discovered -- quite late -- is that in micro-print (accented in yellow in the same way you'd use a "High-Liter") on the outside of the game packaging, under "System Requirements", a statement appears saying that there might be "conflicts" with "certain" DVD-RW drives. This, however, is not the same as saying that DVD-RW drives are "not supported".
Still on the subject of "not supported", the statement on laptop versions of graphics cards has morphed from "not supported" to "not fully supported" depending on whether you're reading the website, the box/packaging, or the Read-Me file.

I can't believe I've started looking into solutions like that myself! Wink
The "System Requirements" just say "DVD-ROM", and say nothing about "external" or "USB 2.0" or "Firewire", so you might imagine this could be a solution, but I don't know. All of this is the luck-of-the-draw and it's maddening.

To tell the truth, I can't believe they haven't been sued. We are legitimate users, with no way of knowing that the product wouldn't work when we ordered, and with no legitimate recourse through Ubisoft.

Yesss... but I'm not sure I get your point. DVD-RW drives are also DVD-ROM drives, but the discussion is that some of them are not recognizing that the original game disc is in the drive. What we're wondering is, is there some kind of "catch" with external "third party" drives of the USB 2.0 or Firewire kind.
