untill now, I nearly bought all the Myst and Uru games and had no problems installing or playing. I played Myst IV and Myst V Demo whitout any technical problems.
Now I bought Myst V, installation without errors, but when I start the game, after the two flash-screens it allways returns to desktop.
I did an update of my video and audio drivers as suggested here in others posts. this makes no difference. Anyone an idea to solve my problems?

Did you try installing Catalyst 3.8 and/or Catalyst 4.12, as detailed in Myst V: Installing Video Drivers With Win XP?

Thanks for your reply. this is an option I didn't do yet. so I did them now. Installing Catalyst 3.8 made it worse. Myst IV which played perfect before rebooted the pc now. the same for Myst V.
So I went on to Catalyst 4.12. this one let me play Myst IV again like before. but no improvement for Myst V. after the 2 splash-screen it keeps returning to desktop.
It was worth trying, but gave no solution.
Any other ideas? thanks for your help. I really hope to get it working. I like the games a lot.

Try re-installing EoA from a clean boot as detailed in Myst V: Clean Boot Install/Re-install With Win XP.

I had the same problem, the game crashed before started.
I’d tried almost every hint that I found here.
After updating all drivers, as a last resource I forced my windows XP to open the game with 256 colors and it worked!!! It’s running ok now!

at this point I tried everything I could find here on the forum. also tried to run it in 256 color mode or other windows-modes. nothing works. the game still doesn't start.

Questions:

1. Did you try setting up a new User Account with all the priviliges you can give it, and installing EoA to the new account?
2. Are you logging into Windows with full Administrator privileges before starting EoA?
3. Are you trying to play the game over a network?
4. Did you do steps 1 through 5, 7, and 9 under Overall Windows and Hard Disk Tune-up With Win XP in Myst V: Clean Boot Install/Re-install With Win XP?
5. Your DxDiag report shows a secondary instance of your Radeon 9250 video card. Are you running a dual-display (two monitors) system?

Pending the answers to those questions:

1. Go to Myst V: Miscellaneous Video Problem Fixes and try all of the steps. For step 3, do only down to "If there are still problems...." until you can get the game started, then do the rest of the step.

2. Check your RAM for errors using a utility like Memtest86 (free), available here. Click on 'Download - Pre-Compiled Memtest86 v3.2 installable from Windows and DOS' under 'Memtest86 3.2 Release (11/Nov/2004)'. If Memtest indicates problems, go to your BIOS's Chipset Features Setup page or whatever page the memory variables like latency are on, and load the BIOS defaults. Then try Memtest again. If you still get errors, you've got bad RAM.
