When installing EoA I received three installation errors all worded like this: One or more errors occured durring the copying of files (File1); Also for (bean81) and (bean204). It told me to look at the installation Log for more details.
1. Where can I find the installation log? 2. I am installing the game to my D: disk not my C: disk 3. I found some posts about Java in this forum, should I delete Java prior to reinstalling EoA and then download Java again? 4. I have Nvidia 81.24 installed and DirectX 9.0c installed I tried starting the game but it tells me to install the original disk to continue. Probably looking for a file that didn't get installed. Thanks, |

For the installation log, look in all of the folders on D: to which you attempted to install EoA (maybe D:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Cyan Worlds\Myst V End Of Ages and subfolders) for a log.txt or .log file.
Did you replace the NVIDIA version 84.26 Quadro driver using the correct procedure? See Myst V: Installing Video Drivers With Win XP. Heimdall This message has been edited. Last edited by: Heimdall G, |

Just ot answer your question, I did reinstall using the proceedure you outlined in that post. I also used your proceedure to reinstall Java off line.
I'm still working on it and will be back with another post later today. Thanks |

OK, after having reloaded, reloaded, reloaded, and reloaded, I have come to the belief that I either have a corrupted CD or the CD/DVD device is generting errors.
I have done reinstalls of the drivers, Java, ActiveX, and loaded from a fresh reboot with all tasks stopped, virus program stopped and the internet disconnected. I get a ways into the installation any where from 20 to 8 percent and then it starts asking me to insert disk 2 then disk 3 and finally disk 1 again. It creates an uninstaller and lets me know it has had one or more errors durring copying files (files1),(bean81),(bean204), etc. The failure isn't always on all three files. Like I said, sometimes it gives up after 8% finished and sometimes after 20%. The furthest I ever got was 33%. I'll have to wait untill I get a new CD/DVD drive. Thanks |

Fred, I see almost exactly the same errors. It gets to 5%, 20% or I think at most 30% before bailing out and saying there were errors copying files - usually "files1" but occasionally others. Occasionally I get an error from the MSVCRT about the sound decompressor as well.
I have the DVD edition. I've removed and reinstalled J2SE 5.0 Update 6 from a clean boot and removed and installed Myst V from a clean boot more times than I can remember, and done everything else in Heimdall's guides. I also tried copying the DVD contents to a directory on my hard disk (which showed no errors) and running the installer from there and got the same error while installing. I was expecting an error about not installing from the original media, but got the same problems as seen above. It's possible we could both have damaged media or drives but seems unlikely. I'm running Windows 2000 SP4, on an Athlon 64 3200+, with a GeForce 6600, 1GB RAM and am installing to drive E. |

Well thanks, I was beginning to think it was just me. This statement may date me, but this reminds me of installing software for IBM mainframe computers on the 360 and 370 series. Every installation was a PITA and you virtually had to beat the new program into submission. It shouldn't be this difficult. Every other program I have installed on a XP machine has gone with out a hitch.
I love the MYST series but it doesn't look like they did much installation testing on various platforms. For EoA or Revelation. Revelation was a pain to install, but it did finally go on. I appreciate all the effort Heimdall has done in the forums. Without all his help I would have never have gotten Revelation on. I guess I'll sit back, relax and watch the forum to see if someome discovers what the problem is. |

Having done some more tests today it looks like I might have a dodgy DVD drive after all. I copied the installation files to my hard disk again, to a different folder this time, and there were small differences between the first and second file sets - so there are random errors occuring while reading off the DVD, but they're not reported, which is a bit strange.
Anyway with a lot of copying and comparing I managed to reconstruct a 'correct' copy of the installation files and it installed *almost* correctly - the installer didn't exit properly when it had finished, but the game is working fine so far, so it won't be going back to the shop. |

i had same errors and so i coppied to my hard drive from the cd and then i installed to a different folder ( just added 123 to the end of the folder name to be honest ) and it installed perfectly.

at last I find a message with someone having the java problem with win2k!
I've now spent the weekend trying to install this darn thing. Done everything that's been mentioned for XP and what I can find for Win2k. I've even, due to another issue, now got a clean install of Win2k sp4. I've removed the M$ Java VM. Installed latest Sun Java (and versions going back as far as 1.5.02). Removed InstallShield dir - and interestingly it hasn't been put back when running myst v installer. Done all the steps, in order, of the winXP problem shooting messages, although tailored to win2k. The only thing that is consistent is that whatever percentage it is that it gets to (between 4% and 13%)it all ways errors just after the 'creating uninstaller' message. And this usualy happens after it kicks off some java thingy. Not sure what but am guessing it is the sound decompression. I have the DVD version and I know it works cos it installed on a windows XP machine no problem. I also copied the DVD to HDD and ran from there with exactly the same issues. Interestingly one issue I haven't seen anyone mention is that if I try to open the setup.jar file it says that it is an invalid archive. But I can open it with winzip no problem and it tests OK under that. So the DVD must be OK and the drive can't be the problem. It seems to be the interaction between the install shield stuff and my windows. As I say, it doesn't create an installshield directory, which I got the impression it should do? Also notable is that if I uninstall java completly and run the install it makes no difference at all. I.e. I get same error at the same logical point. Any thoughts? |

Welcome to the Forums!
If nothing in those two topics helps, please start a new topic - aka "Discussion - in this Forum. (Title it something other than "Installation errors".) Include at least: -- Your problem description, as above. -- The exact error message(s) you're getting. -- Your DxDiag report. See Posting Guidelines and Myst V System Requirements under POSTING GUIDELINES, To post a DxDiag report for a how-to. Run all of the graphics and sound tests you can before saving the report to a file, and post *all* of the file. If the manufacturer and exact model number of your PC aren't shown under 'System Information' (System Manufacturer and System Model) at the top of the report, also include that information in your post. Or, if you built your system or it was put together locally for you, include the manufacturer and exact model number of your motherboard. Also: -- The InstallShield directory/folder was probably in \Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield, but a new InstallShield folder might have been written to a hard disk location other than where it was initially. Have you searched your disk(s) for the folder? -- Have you found an EoA installation log, and if so, what are the contents? As a first pass, look in \Program Files\Ubisoft\Cyan Worlds\Myst V End Of Ages and subfolders. You can also use the Event Viewer, as in How To Diagnose System Problems with Event Viewer in Microsoft Windows 2000. Heimdall Semper ubi sub ubi |

Have these Java install problems been fixed when trying to install on Vista?
It's sort of strange that a problem like this is still a problem after a year of the problem fisry showing up. |

If you're asking whether there'll be a Windows patch of any flavor for Myst V forthcoming from Ubisoft, it's highly unlikely. Stranger things have happened, of course, but don't hold your breath waiting, lest you end up looking like a giant Smurf!
Note that Ubisoft only sponsors these Forums and does NOT run them. I'm not at all certain that any Ubisoft representatives ever visit us. If they do, it isn't really obvious. So, you'll need to contact Ubisoft directly to register your comments: 1. Visit the Ubisoft Support Center. -- First, try Search the Knowledge Base (FAQ), which takes you to the Ubisoft Solution Center's Answers page. Search for your problem using as few key words as possible, and be specific when you select a product and a category. -- If you can't find anything that fits, call Technical Support at (919) 460-9778 in the US or look for an International Technical Support phone number. 2. Send a support request containing your comments to a Technical Support Representative using 'Ask a Question'. -- Click on the Solution Center's Ask a Question tab. You can also check on the status of what you've previously sent, as well as see your entire support history, by clicking on the My Stuff tab. -- Log in and submit your comments via Ask a Question. thanks for the welcome and suggestions. Yep, I had followed the info in the two linked posts. And finding the vpd.properties was one of the first problems I had!
Seems that the mere act of posting here has done something as it now errors at 20% instead of 6/10% - still on the deinstall though. Shall get all the info together and start a new thread though. |
