I understand that Vista is not officially supported by I got it to install on a mid-range laptop with Vista Home Premium.

I'm trying to install Myst V on my desktop for better gameplay. I'm using the original discs bought from Target.

The install will get 30% through and then stop on a particular file for a long time. After some time it will prompt me for disc 2. I insert disc 2 and click ok. After a long time with no progress, it prompts me for disc 3. Same deal, then asking me for disc 1.

After swapping out discs several times, the progress hasn't increase and the installation "finishes with errors" at about 30~31%.

If have installed the Java platform and still no luck. My computer far exceeds all the sys requirements.

I have tried multiple times. It's really starting to get me upset.

Here's the error log (I cancelled it a couple of times when I realized it was doing the same thing):

Welcome to the Forums!

Suggestions:

1. If you didn't install Java 6 Update 1 from a clean boot exactly as detailed in steps 2 through 5 of Myst V: Java-related Installation Problem Fixes With Win XP, do so now. Then install EoA.

2. Try step 6 in Myst V: Java-related Installation Problem Fixes With Win XP. Then install EoA.

3. Try step 7 (if you have two or more hard drives) in Myst V: Java-related Installation Problem Fixes With Win XP. Then install EoA.

4. Take a look at:
-- How to troubleshoot application compatibility issues in Windows Vista
-- How to troubleshoot issues that may prevent a program from being installed correctly on a Windows Vista-based computer
-- Advanced methods to troubleshoot a program that does not run as expected after it is installed on Windows Vista

I have tried all those things and nothing seems to be working at all.

I've also been trying it on Windows XP SP2 and the same type thing is happening.

The program will install to ~30% then freeze and ask for various disks. (It stops on SoundDecompress.exe)

When I look in the log I get: cyclic redundancy check....

Sounds like you have a bad disc, especially since you've tried all of the above and tried installing on different PC's with Win XP and Vista.

Can you return the game to Target for a refund or a replacement? If so, try that.

Darn! I thought it could be that.

I doubt I can take it back now, it was purchased online in December for Christmas...

It's worth trying to return the game at a Target store, even though it was purchased on-line.

Target is into "customer good will" and may either refund your money or give you a replacement game, if it's in stock.

If the person behind the Customer Service desk isn't cooperative, ask to speak to a Manager. Don't give up until you've done so.

I asked for a replacement through a wizard type thing on their site. They are sending me one free of charge cause I told them the ones I have are defective.

They told me not to send the ones I have back until I got the new ones....

I'll let you know how it goes when they come in. Keep fingers crossed!!
