Today I purchased Myst v End of Ages as a present for my wife. Game runs fine (1 or 2 issues) but it wont allow me to play over a 1024 x 768 resolution. I can uncheck the little box for Recommended Settings , set up my preffered settings (1280 x 1024 or 1600 x 1280 ) as well as AA and AF then click yes to restart. Next time I launch the game settings have set to default. But if I set the settings to 1024 x 768 and restart then the game will launch at these settings, so any thing over 1024 x 768 fails to run. Is it that their is a possibility that you have to set your res in the shortcut upon launch ?

I have an uber PC and running latest Nvidia Drivers 81.82

System Spec :-

Windows XP Home SP 2
AMD 63 3500 @ 2420 Mhz
XFX 7800 GTX Extreme
Asus A8n SLI Premimum Edition
2 Gigs OCZ DDR PC 3200 memory

Also the game seems to be a little jumpy / stutter , kind like mouse jump as when you turn it just isnt smooth. Is their a mouse smooth option like in other games or mouse filter to smooth out movment ?

Im using the latest Logitech Mouse ware for my MX 510 mouse..

No, there isn't anything you set in the shortcut upon launch.

Is there some over-riding reason that you absolutely must play the game at a resolution higher than 1024x768?

Well I pay much money for my system and wish to play this game at its best i.e Looking good at MAX Settings. All games look amazing at high resolution. So if this game allows me to play over 1024 x 768 then I will play at its maxed resolution becuase my system can handle it. Games like Bf2 I can play at full res and settings..

Any ideas why this isnt the case with this game and that the game keeps setting it at default or 1024 x 768 ?

Also at higher res the game isnt so jumpy on mouse movment.. I can set the resolution in game @ 1600 x 1280 and then choose not to restart and it will run at the applied resolution, its when the game is shutdown and brought back up does it re set..

You should be able to run at 1280 * 960 with "Recommended only" checked. Will that do?

(It's the same aspect ratio as 1024 * 768 and you'll see more at the edges).

it does the same when I check 1280 x 960 , I can go in game set it up as 1280 x 960 , restart the game and default settings have returned..

Your setup is behaving as though it's using default Microsoft graphics drivers not nvidia ones. Another thing is that I don't recognise the nvidia driver version. I thought the latest was 78.01.

Can you try rolling back to 77.77? This has been the most stable version for the game.

81.82 are Beta drivers released my NV Zone , they are one of the best drivers for my card and have been optimised for better performance. I have never used 77.77 and will never drop down to that level of driver becuase of my supported games and the latest driver.

I will drop to 78.01 and test but if this fails then I would asume their is a problem and the game requires patching ?

All other games such as BF2 , COD2, Brothers in Arms, F.E.A.R all run at 1600 x 1200...

*Edit their is also shadow problems, after playing for 5 - 10 minutes you meet a person outside and he talks for a few minutes. In the background is a small pond , this pond has corrupt shadows and instead of seeing 1 shadow you are seeing layers of the same shadow. I will post a screen later and also post results from 78.01

well I tried 81.01 and problem with resolution change is still their, 1024 x 768 is MAX res I can go.. :-(

Shadow bug has gone so I guess the 81.82 dont like it so I can stay on this driver untill Nvidia release official..

But still remains the probem with the resolution and the jumpy / mouse stutter, its very anoying and hurts your eyes after a while ..

Would you please try 77.77 as a test? You can always reset it afterwards. Your feedback may be useful to someone else if not to you.

I dont run Anti Virus , this machine is pure gaming.. Not too worried about viruses.

I used Driver Cleaner to remove the previous version of Drivers.. Re start as previously taught and then re load new driver with another restart. (PC Technician :-))

Im going to return to 81.01 becuase the textures on some ponds dont have the shadow bug..

As to my resolution problem any ideas and also any ideas with regards to the stutter ?

I don't know about suffering the same but Leonor on the Uru Obsession Myst V forum has the same card and no problems. You could compare notes.

If the game is hurting your wife's eyes, you may have something else to change.

What screen refresh rate are you running at?

I should have thought of this before.

Right-click anywhere on your desktop and select properties. Click on Settings.

Half-way down is the text Display: followed by Plug and Play Monitor... What does it say?

Underneath is the screen resolution. What is it set to? If it's not 1280 by 960 can you set it to that then set the game to that too and see if it takes.

Click on Advanced. Click on Monitor. What is your screen refresh rate? It should be 85 Hz. If it's still 60 Hz that could be the cause of hurting your wife's eyes. I get headaches at that refresh rate as I'm sensitive to the flicker.

Hope Im not confusing you but ...

If the game controls are set to Mouse and Keyboard i.e Movment by Keys then it stutters whilst navigating with mouse (When I say stutters I mean slight blurred / stutter in movment)

Desktop res is 1280 x 1024 @ 85 Hertz

But if the Control settings are set to mouse only (Default Settings) then its fine..

I hadn't appreciated that it was your control scheme that was giving you problems.

Could you try setting your desktop resolution to 1280 * 960 @ 85Hz and your game to same to see if it will remember the resolution?
