I need to adjust the resolution settings to make the video work correctly, but because of my problem I cannot see any buttons in the menu. If there's someone who can describe which buttons to click (because all I see is black squares) to get to the right section (lowering video resolution) I'd appreciate that

Changing in-game video resolution most likely won't help with the black squares. This problem usually means that you need to correctly install the proper driver for your video card and EoA, or worst case, you may have a video chipset that isn't supported by EoA.

Run all of the graphics and sound tests you can before saving the report to a file, and post *all* of the file.
