In Todelmer, on the last telescope, after I align the planets, I get a Bahro symbol. It is a small diamond inside a large diamond. And no matter how perfect I draw it, it still does not work.
In Noloben, the bahro symbol for the Keep is a diamond with a line coming out of each side. And this does not work. I have looked through all the walkthroughs and they show circles Bahro symbols for Todelmer and Noloben. When I draw the symbols with straight lines, they work. The circle signs that I have seen on walkthroughs do not work. Is this a problem with my game or with my drawing? If my drawing is the problem, is there a tutorial on how to draw the symbols? Thanks for your time ! -Bryan |

Hi HG,
Could this be caused by using the patch for Windows Media Centers. It says something about making the drawing easier for some controllers. I don't have that problem, but it sounds like that may have been the cause for the diamonds instead of circles. |

gnorke – the patch you're referring to is available here. The patch notes from Ubi's Myst Worlds archives:
-- Fonts and Symbols were enlarged in order to be more visible when using the 10' interface -- Symbols were changed in order to be Remote Control and Gamepad Controller friendly -- Navigation and Slate drawing is now Remote Control and Gamepad Controller friendly -- Registers the game with the Media Center shell -- Places a new icon in the More Programs section of Media Center -- Allows for the use of 3rd-party Media Center shells So, it's possible that's the problem, if Bryan has WMCE and has applied this patch. Doesn't matter, really, since the problem fixes are the same in any event. Bryan – for info, do you have WMCE, and did you apply the patch? Or maybe you don't have WMCE and applied it anyway? Whether you did so or not, a couple of suggestions: 1. Install or re-install the latest video driver for your chipset, carefully following the instructions in Myst V: Installing Video Drivers With Win XP. Do not neglect to install or re-install the latest end-user runtime release of DirectX 9.0c as part of the driver installation procedure. 2. Uninstall EoA, then re-install the game from a clean boot. Carefully follow the instructions under Installing and Re-Installing EoA, "6. Clean-boot EoA Re-install, Previous Installation" in Myst V: Clean Boot Install/Re-install With Win XP. I have Windows Vista Home Edition. I did install the WMCE patch. Can't I uninstall the patch ? Is there a way I can hold onto my saved game so I don't have to start completely over? I have Direct X 9.0c on my computer. This is my first experience with this game.
Thanks for your help ! -Bryan |

It's NOT a good idea to install a patch meant for one operating system under a different operating system. That is, if you're running Windows Vista Home Edition, it's risky to install a patch meant for Windows Media Center Edition. In this case, you were lucky that the patch didn't do anything nasty to Vista!
Q. Can't I uninstall the patch A. There may be an entry for the patch in Control Panel's Add or Remove Programs list. If there is, you can try uninstalling it from there. Otherwise, there's no easy way to uninstall the patch. The best thing to do is uninstall EoA, then re-install it from a clean boot. Q. Is there a way I can hold onto my saved game so I don't have to start completely over? A. Yes, there is. As I said above, carefully follow the instructions under Installing and Re-Installing EoA, "6. Clean-boot EoA Re-install, Previous Installation" in Myst V: Clean Boot Install/Re-install With Win XP. In these Forums, anything that's underlined, and sometimes in bold-face type and/or a different color, is a link to another Internet site or page. Double-left-click on a link to go to its site or page. If you don't see links as underlined: -- a. Click on Tools on the top Internet Explorer taskbar, then click on Internet Options.... -- b. Click on the Advanced tab, scroll down to Underline links, and click on the Always radio button. -- c. Click on Apply > OK, and links should now be underlined. You may have DirectX 9.0c on your PC, but unless you've just installed it from here, you don't have the latest end-user runtime release. And you should also install the latest Vista driver for your video chipset, as above. EoA is a very complex game, and you don't get a free lunch with it. Definitely a no pain, no gain situation! Can you please give me an order to install these programs?
I think that I am going to really mess up my computer if I do it randomly. Thanks ! -Bryan |

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium. I have Direct X 9.0 updated and the video driver updated.
There is NO /Sav/Store1 directory on my computer as described on 6 A of Clean-boot EoA Re-install, Previous Installation. Where do I find the /Sav/Store1 directory on my computer ? Where are my save files located on my computer ? -Bryan This message has been edited. Last edited by: Peaceful29, |

Any advice for finding the /sav/store1 directory?
As far as I can see, it is not on my computer. |

In a Private Message, you commented that you've saved your progress files to a non-default folder. (Let's confine everything to this topic, since others who might also benefit can't see the PM's.)
And you asked, "What files do I need from /sav/store1?" If EoA is installed using the defaults, to uninstall and re-install the game you first copy \Sav\Store1 from C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Myst V End of Ages and Progress.db from C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Cyan Worlds\Myst V End Of Ages to another location on your hard drive. Then, after re-installing EoA, you copy the backed-up \Sav\Store1 to \Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Myst V End of Ages and Progress.db to \Program Files\Ubisoft\Cyan Worlds\Myst V End Of Ages. C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Myst V End of Ages\sav contains the subfolders: -- a. \StartUp, which contains GlobalState.data and StartUp.data. -- b. \Store1, which contains: ----- 1. A number of subfolders, one for each save you've done. These subfolders each contain .data files and a slot.dat file. ----- 2. The subfolder\Journal, which in turn contains the subsubfolder \images. This subsubfolder contains imagexxxx.jpg files. The default folder tree looks like this: \sav ..\StartUp ..\Store1 .........\<individual saved game subfolders> ......\Journal ...........\images Let's say you saved your EoA game progress to \SomeOtherFolder, which should be the equivalent of the default \sav and which should contain the subfolders \StartUp, \Store1, etc. Your folder tree should look like this: \SomeOtherFolder ..\StartUp ..\Store1 .........\<individual saved-game subfolders> ......\Journal ...........\images If so, copy \SomeOtherFolder with all of its subfolders to another location on your hard drive. Then, after re-installing EoA, copy the backed-up \SomeOtherFolder to wherever you originally had it. -- a. Uninstalling EoA may or may not delete \SomeOtherFolder. If this folder wasn't deleted, check its contents to be certain that everything is still there. If not, over-write \SomeOtherFolder with the backed-up copy, including all subfolders. -- b. Don't forget to also copy/restore Progress.db from/to C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Cyan Worlds\Myst V End Of Ages. Heimdall Semper ubi sub ubi |

The only file I have on my computer, that you have posted about is progress.db
All other files and directories you have mentioned DO NOT EXIST on the computer. I did NOT change the default directory as I have had problems in the past when I have changed it. |

You said in the Private Message, "I have saved progress file to another directory." I thought you meant that you didn't use the default folder/directory for saving game progress. However, if by "progress file" you meant Progress.db, then I misunderstood.
In what folder did you originally find Progress.db? Was it in a \Documents and Settings folder, or in a \Program Files folder? Or somewhere else? Also, do the following. -- a. Log into Windows with full Administrator privileges, and close all open applications. -- b. Open a single Windows Explorer session. -- c. On the Windows Explorer top taskbar, click on Tools > Folder Options... > View tab. -- d. Put a checkmark in these boxes: ----- 1. Automatically search for network folders and printers (if you're on a network or are sharing files) ----- 2. Display the contents of system folders ----- 3. Remember each folder's view settings -- e. Under "Hidden files and folders", click on the Show hidden files and folders radio button to activate it. -- f. Uncheck these boxes: ----- 1. Hide extensions for known file types ----- 2. Hide protected operating system files -- g. Click on Apply > OK. -- h. Close the Windows Explorer session back to the Desktop. -- i. Open another Windows Explorer session, and again search for the game progress folders and files I mention above. Search all hard drives, if you have more than one. If you still don't find the folders and files (except for Progress.db) mentioned above, you don't have any EoA saved game progress. Heimdall Semper ubi sub ubi |

I got it. That last post worked! Finally I can get back to the game. I really did not want to start over. I have been working on this game for weeks.
Progress.db was in the /program files folder I did not see the other files because they were hidden files ! Thank you for all your help ! -Bryan |

Have a video driver update and clean boot re-install solved the slate drawing problem?
