hi

i installed the myst v demo on my g5-imac, but when i start the game, the ubi, cyan and just another logo appear, after that i can see the handcursor for maybe one second, then on the bottom of the screen a gray (almost black) progress bar, and after that the screen stays black. i can't use mouse or keyboard, quitting is impossible, also sending the computer to sleep. i have to reset by pressing the power button for 5 seconds.

Note that with Myst games, if you can't run the demo, you usually can't run the full game.

Deciphering a Crash Report may not give you a quick and easy solution, but it does tell you a few things:
-- Folks are having problems with the Myst V demo on Macs. Solutions are not numerous.
-- You can look for a crash report for the demo on your Mac to see if you can spot why it's locking up the machine. If you don't know how to use crash reports, see Apple's Technical Note TN2123, CrashReporter as a starting point.
-- Apple Discussions is an excellent place to find topics describing (and maybe solving) Mac problems. But you do have to search and read. For example, you can search the iMac Category and the Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger Category for the keyword Myst. Lots of hits.
-- You may not find your exact problem/solution, but a discussion topic may give you enough clues that some deductive logic on your part - and maybe more searching - will give you a solution.


And there are also other Mac-related topics in this (Myst V End of Ages- Technical Help & Advice) Forum to look at. For example:

Hi,
For me, Myst V work with my Mac OS X up to 10.4.2. At 10.4.3 and after, I get a black screen and I must restart my computer.
I am waiting from Apple to Mac OS X 10.4.8 to see if the bug is corrected.
On my computer, I have replaced my ATI card with a NVIDIA and I have the same trouble.
