Hey all, I really could use some help right now.

So I'm trying to uninstall Myst V, and I realize the folder with the uninstallation file is missing from my start menu under all programs. So I try to uninstall it in the program files under the _uninst folder by using the executible Java file, but when I did execute it, I got this really nasty error when the uninstallation window came up:

Code:
Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard for ERROR: cannot load product /product.xml: java.io.IOException: entry 33ba90314f9ad52bb6f176290e876139/product.xml does not exist in C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Cyan Worlds\Myst V End Of Ages\_uninst\uninstall.jar
The InstallShield Wizard will uninstall ERROR: cannot load product /product.xml: java.io.IOException: entry 33ba90314f9ad52bb6f176290e876139/product.xml does not exist in C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Cyan Worlds\Myst V End Of Ages\_uninst\uninstall.jar from your computer. To continue, choose Next.
ERROR: cannot load product /product.xml: java.io.IOException: entry 33ba90314f9ad52bb6f176290e876139/product.xml does not exist in C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Cyan Worlds\Myst V End Of Ages\_uninst\uninstall.jar ERROR: cannot load product /product.xml: java.io.IOException: entry 33ba90314f9ad52bb6f176290e876139/product.xml does not exist in C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Cyan Worlds\Myst V End Of Ages\_uninst\uninstall.jar ERROR: cannot load product /product.xml: java.io.IOException: entry 33ba90314f9ad52bb6f176290e876139/product.xml does not exist in C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Cyan Worlds\Myst V End Of Ages\_uninst\uninstall.jar

So then I tried going into the disc and making a fresh install from there, but I tried doing that from the disc and it said that there was already an installation of Myst V active, and that I needed to remove it before making another installation. But I can't remove it since the uninstaller is pretty much shot X_X

What should I do? I've NEVER had this problem when trying to uninstall the game other times...

Any help would be HIGHLY appreciated!!

@ Heimdall

We tried helping Jamey on the Mystonline forums but we have not been able to find a solution.

In case this may help, here is a link to his thread over there...

Welcome to the Forums!

To answer your question in the Myst Online Technical Discussion Forum, using the procedure detailed in How to manually remove programs from the Add or Remove Programs tool only removes an incorrect entry from Control Panel's Add or Remove Programs list. The program referred to by the entry will NOT be removed/uninstalled.

There are three primary methods for removing a complete, undamaged install of EoA. Reboot, log into Windows with full Administrator privileges, and close all open applications. Then:

1. In the Start Menu Programs List, go to Ubisoft > CyanWorlds > Myst V, and double-click on the Uninstall Myst V icon.

2. Use Control Panel's Add or Remove Programs.
-- a. Click on Start > Control Panel, then double-click on Add or Remove Programs.
-- b. In the Currently installed programs list, click on the Myst V entry.
-- c. Click on Change (or Change/Remove).
-- d. If prompted to confirm the removal of the program, click on Yes.
-- e. Close Control Panel back to the Desktop, and reboot.

If that doesn't work and if you see Change or Repair in addition to Uninstall for Myst V, click on those options and follow the Wizard's instructions. Then try uninstalling again.

3. Run EoA's Uninstaller.exe. Assuming you did a default install:
-- a. Click on Start > Run
-- b. Browse to C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Cyan Worlds\Myst V End Of Ages\_uninst.
-- c. Double-click on Uninstaller.exe to put it in the Open: box.
-- d. Click on OK to run it.

You can also try the three primary methods with Windows running in Safe Mode. To enter Safe Mode, press the F8 key multiple times during bootup. For more information, search Windows Help for "safe mode".

You apparently have a damaged EoA install, which is why the three primary removal methods don't work. The simplest thing to do is re-install EoA over the existing install, and then uninstall it. Properly re-installing adds any missing files (including those necessary for uninstalling), establishes the correct Registry entries, etc.

To re-install/uninstall EoA:
-- a. Open Windows Explorer and browse to C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Cyan Worlds\Myst V End Of Ages. This assumes you originally accepted the EoA install defaults.
-- b. Delete the \Myst V End Of Ages folder.
----- 1. Especially if you have other \Ubisoft or \Cyan Worlds games installed, be careful to delete the \Myst V End Of Ages folder ONLY.
-- c. Search for vpd.properties. It'll probably be in your \Windows folder. Even though you've already deleted vpd.properties, search for it again just to be certain.
----- 1. If you're positive that no other program uses this file, delete it.
----- 2. If you're NOT positive, rename the file to something like OLD_vpd.properties.
-- d. Browse to C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Myst V End of Ages.
----- 1. Delete the \Myst V End of Ages folder ONLY.
-- e. Close Windows Explorer.
-- f. Re-install EoA, and reboot when installation is complete.
-- g. Uninstall EoA using one of the above three primary methods.

If that doesn't work, (CAREFULLY) try a third-party uninstaller. Examples (some free, some not) are:
-- Revo Uninstaller
-- Smarty Uninstaller Pro 2008
-- Mcafee UnInstaller
-- Your Uninstaller! 2008
-- Free Uninstaller

If nothing else works, you can use "brute force" to uninstall EoA. This involves editing your Registry using Regedit - be very careful to follow all of these instructions *exactly*!

1. Assuming you did a default EoA install:
-- a. Carry out steps a. through e. under "To re-install/uninstall:", above.
-- b. Start RegEdit.
----- 1. Click on Start > Run.
----- 2. Type regedit in the Open: box.
----- 3. Click on OK.
-- c. Back up your Registry. (If you need to restore the Registry, find the backup file and double-click on it.)
----- 1. On the top task bar, click on File > Export.
----- 2. Choose a location and enter a name for the backup file.
----- 3. Click on Save and wait for the process to complete (cursor re-appears).
-- d. In the left-hand pane, click on My Computer to highlight it.
-- e. On the top task bar, click on Edit > Find.
-- f. Type Myst V in the Find what: box.
-- g. Click on Find Next.
-- h. Delete the Myst V entry.
----- 1. Click on the entry to highlight it.
----- 2. Press the Del key or click on Edit > Delete.
-- i. Press F3 to find the next Myst V entry, and delete it.
-- j. Repeat until no further entries are found.
-- k. When you see Finished searching through the registry., click on OK.
-- l. Close Regedit back to the Desktop.
-- m. Reboot.

2. Log into Windows with full Administrator privileges, close all open applications, and check your Registry for errors. This should also pick up stray Myst V entries. Windows doesn't have a built-in Registry diagnosis and repair utility, so here are some other options. Run whichever utility you use until no more repairable errors are discovered, and reboot when finished. (Note that if you've never cleaned up your Registry, you'll probably find *LOTS* of errors!)
-- Symantec's Norton SystemWorks - Norton Utilities WinDoctor - not free
-- Rose City Software's Registry First Aid - not free
-- VCOM's Fix-It Utilities SystemRegistry-RegistryFixer utility - not free
-- Lexun Freeware's RegScrubXP 3.25 - free
-- Toni Arts' EasyCleaner 2.0 - free
-- WiseCleaner's Wise Registry Cleaner - free version

Yeah, I know, since I've been watching that thread.

Did he "forget" or is he simply a discourteous and fumble-witted twit who'll always do what's easiest? Guess what I think.

Sometimes I wonder why I bother...!

Where I live the word "twit" is used more and more often, Even in french(french Canada)

As to why you still bother, I beleive it is because you have the "Royal Soul gene" of "The Lost Race".
