I'm having a problem in the same spot in the begining of eoa. right after yeesha speaks and sends me off my monitor turns off, it doesn't just crash it turns off. when i restart my monitor because the audio is still going it says my monitor is in power save mode and my computer goes into safe mode when it finally turns on. the only other game to crash was vampire the masquerade: bloodlines but i've never had my monitor turned off.

Suggestions, to do in the order shown:

1. Open Hardware Manager and check to see if anything has a yellow exclamation point next to it, especially your video card and monitor. Devices with conflicts will have a yellow "!" next to them. (Disabled devices will have a red "X".)
-- a. Log into Windows with full Administrator privileges and close any open applications.
-- b. On the Desktop or Start menu, right-click on the My Computer icon.
-- c. Select Properties in the resulting drop-down menu.
-- d. In the System Properties window, click on the Hardware tab and Device Manager.
-- e. A list of hardware installed in your PC should be displayed, and there should be no yellow "!".
-- f. Also, expand (click on the "+") Display adapters. Only your Radeon 9200 should be listed. If there's any other listing, you probably have an on-board/integrated video chipset which should be disabled in your system BIOS.

If you see an "!" (or an "X"), post back with details.

2. Correctly install the proper video driver for your Radeon 9200 chipset, as detailed under Installing ATI Radeon Drivers in Myst V: Installing Video Drivers With Win XP. Note that you have an older Radeon chipset.

3. Do steps 1, 2, 4, and 3 (in that order) in Myst V: Miscellaneous Video Problem Fixes.

4. Re-install EoA as detailed under "6. Clean-boot EoA Re-install, Previous Installation" in Myst V: Clean Boot Install/Re-install With Win XP. Before re-installing, do steps 1 through 5 under Overall Windows and Hard Disk Tune-up.

well in my device manager i had a red x for a network card that i can't and don't use so i got rid of that but i have a yellow exlcamation point next to an SM Bus Controller which i'm not really sure what it is. and under my display drivers i have Radeon 9200 series and underneath it Radeon 9200 Series (secondary).

SM Bus is System Management Bus. This is a channel used for communication with devices on a motherboard, for example, power related chips such as a laptop's rechargeable battery system, or temperature sensors and lid switches. A device can provide manufacturer information, indicate its model/part number, save its state for a system suspend, report errors, accept control parameters, and return status. The SM Bus is usually not user-configurable or accessible.

You apparently have the chipset on your motherboard to support the SM Bus, but don't have the appropriate driver installed or maybe a motherboard jumper not set properly. You should install the driver, since this may give you some features/functionality you'd like to have. Information on the SM Bus should be in your motherboard user's manual, along with instructions on installing the driver (and any jumper settings). Also, there may be an SM Bus driver installation option on the original motherboard driver installation CD. If you can't find the manual and/or the disc, post the manufacturer and exact model number of your motherboard, and I'll help.

Regarding the secondary Radeon 9200, are you running a dual-monitor setup? If so, because EoA doesn't like that, disable your secondary monitor before you start EoA. If you aren't running dual monitors, go into the Radeon Control Panel and disable the secondary monitor capability.

You can (and should) carry out the remaining suggestions above before doing anything about SM Bus.

thanks for the info. i tried something that seem's to have worked. i started eoa up and changed the graphical setting to about the middle and changed the control's to classic plus and the game is running perfect now i'm actually in the last tablet age. i'm still going to check into what you told me though just to prevent any further problem with any other games. thanks.
