Any new ideas? Never knew this was going to be this hard. LOL

Suggestion: re: different problem/different topic.

Start a new topic with a new title like "Blue/black screen freeze", describe your new bug and add a "dxdiag" as per Heimdall G's instructions found at the bottom of his post at this link...To post a DxDiag report...click here

Btw, are you using the cd reader or the dvd reader for playing ? I beleive it could be the dvd reader.

My question is - are they the DATA files I want containing extensions such as .prp and .sub ?

re: your freeze glitch after installing the patch.

If you have played around with the game folder in "C: \ program files (x86)", it possible you now have a corrupted installation.

Have you tried a new reinstallation ?

For the procedure have a look at Heimdall's EoA Re-install, "Previous Installation" instructions down in this post, section #6...

Thank you very much erik.am. I've got the same error as kkbookman @ Windows 7 7201 but your solution solve the problem.

I did registration here, only to thank you.

Cheers.

@dnorgard.

If you are talking about the Vista patch, there is nothing to run but you have to unzip it.

It contains a copy of a folder(Myst V End of Ages) that you have to add somewhere on your pc. Read the "README.text document your are supposed to find/see after the patch has been unziped.

Add the "Myst V End of Ages" folder to:
C:\Users\<your windows username>\AppData\Local

Thanks for the tip.

I just installed Myst V on my new Windows 7 computer. I purchased Myst V years ago, but my computer was too slow to enjoy it. Now that I have my new Core i5, I was frustrated that it wasn't working properly in Windows 7. I had the same stack error as people above.

Installing http://cho.cyan.com/patches/Myst5InitFiles.zip in the Users directory made it run.

Thank you, now I can enjoy playing Myst V!

I downloaded the same fix you posted, but it still didn't work. I've downloaded the zip file and copied it to my local file but it Myst V still didn't work.

When you unzip Myst5InitFiles.zip, you'll have the following files and folders:
-- README.txt
-- progress.db (in \Myst V End of Ages folder)
-- audio.ini (in \Myst V End of Ages\init subfolder)
-- graphics.ini (in \Myst V End of Ages\init subfolder)

You must:
-- a. Install Myst V to your C: drive, using the install defaults.
-- b. Download and unzip Myst5InitFiles.zip.
-- c. Copy the \Myst V End of Ages folder (which also automatically copies the \init subfolder) unzipped from Myst5InitFiles.zip to your "C:\Users\<your_username>\AppData\Local" folder.
----- 1. If you can't find "C:\Users\<your_username>\AppData\Local", set your Windows Explorer options to allow viewing hidden files. (Click on Tools > Folder Options > View, click on radio button for "Show hidden files and folders", then click on Apply > OK)

For more details, see Myst V: Main Branch and Access Violation/Stack Error Fixes With Win XP & Vista, under Access Violation/Stack Error.
