I have a laptop with vista 32md and i did what Heimdall G said to do; transfer the XP application data folder to a similar location on vista. it worked like a charm. i no longer get the stacked up error. it works.

You can download the zip file at http://cho.cyan.com/patches/Myst5InitFiles.zip

Enjoy the game Smile

OK, I am a middle aged luddite and have just installed Myst V and encountered this error message. I downloaded the patch and naively assumed that was all I had to do to make this game work. Vista is a ******g nightmare. Can somebody email me step by step instructions designed for the age-challenged with minimal computer skills please?

Welcome to the Forums!

When you download and unzip Myst5InitFiles.zip, you'll have the following files and folders:
-- README.txt
-- progress.db (in \Myst V End of Ages folder)
-- audio.ini (in \Myst V End of Ages\init subfolder)
-- graphics.ini (in \Myst V End of Ages\init subfolder)

From README.txt:

"Before you follow this instructions, you should have installed Myst V with the dvd-rom.

Copy the folder in the zip file (Myst V End of Ages) to:
C:\Users\<your windows username>\AppData\Local

That's it! Myst V should now start up properly.

(If you can't find the folder, remember that AppData is a hidden directory.
Turn on hidden files, or enter the folder path directly into the address bar of Windows Explorer.)"

You must:
-- a. Install Myst V to your C: drive, using the install defaults.
-- b. Download and unzip Myst5InitFiles.zip.
-- c. Copy the \Myst V End of Ages folder (which also automatically copies the \init subfolder) from Myst5InitFiles.zip to your C:\Users\<your windows username>\AppData\Local folder.
----- 1. If you can't find C:\Users\<your windows username>\AppData\Local, set your Windows Explorer options to allow viewing hidden files. (Click on Tools > Folder Options > View, click on radio button for "Show hidden files and folders", then click on Apply > OK)

Post back if you have questions.

Welcome to the Forums!

It may be that EoA does not support your video chipset. Which video chipset do you have, and is it integrated on your motherboard or is it on a separate video card?

It's not clear whether your video chipset is supported by EoA. Even if your chipset is supported, however, something else in your system may be preventing EoA from playing properly.

Please post a DxDiag report in a new topic (aka "Discussion"), so that we can take a look at your system and make recommendations. Also in the new topic, include your problem - black screen, tried patch, etc. - chipset type, and any other details that might help with the problem.

1. To post a DxDiag report, follow the instructions under POSTING GUIDELINES, To post a DxDiag report, in Myst V: System Requirements and Posting Guidelines.

2. To start a new topic:
-- a. Log into your Forum account.
-- b. Click on the New tab at the top of this page, then click on Discussion in the resulting drop-down menu.
-- c. Type a title in the Subject: box. Do NOT use "Stack error on Vista SP1" as a title!

I have a new vista sp1 64 bit machine and have the same trouble as all others with stack errors. Program loads and won't run. If I took my XP machine and loaded MYST V in it then transferred it with a USB cable to the Vista machine, think it would work like Eric.am"s fix?

A big thank you to erik.am bow

Could anyone with an Ubi account be so kind to answer deckboy3455's question at Ubi as follows? I would have done it myself, but I can't log in at Ubi anymore. I tried to reset my password, but even after doing that, Ubi doesn't accept me. I'm wondering if there's a ban in place for some reason...

Anyway, here is my reply for deckboy:

Yes, you can transfer your settings from XP if you like. You do not have to copy the Program Files folder, only the Application Data. So you should copy everything from C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Myst V End of Ages from XP to C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Myst V End of Ages on Vista. Using the patch saves you some time. I assure you that it is safe, otherwise Cyan wouldn't host the fix on their own website. Good luck!

Me again.trying to move the data files from the XP to Vista using a Zip drive. Unlike Erik, my files were installed in C: \ program files (x86) \ UBISOFT \ Cyan Worlds \ Myst V EofA \DATA.
My question is - are they the DATA files I want containing extensions such as .prp and .sub ?

Hi,

I beleive that you are not aware of the latest procedure so I will try giving you step by step instructions.

1- First you need to download the new Cyan's ZipFile from this link...
http://cho.cyan.com/patches/Myst5InitFiles.zip

2- Unzip the file and you will get a main Myst5InitFiles folder.

3- Inside that main folder, there is a "Myst V End of Ages" sub folder and a "README" file

Here is a copy of this README file...
quote:
Getting Myst V to work on Vista Service Pack 1
==============================================

Before you follow this instructions, you should have installed Myst V with the dvd-rom.

Copy the folder in the zip file (Myst V End of Ages) to:
C:\Users\<your windows username>\AppData\Local

That's it! Myst V should now start up properly.

(If you can't find the folder, remember that AppData is a hidden directory.
Turn on hidden files, or enter the folder path directly into the address bar of Windows Explorer.)

4- The idea is to copy/create a missing folder (the sub folder "Myst V End of Ages" from the unziped folder) into your "C:\Users\<your windows username>\AppData\Local".

Note that this not the same location as your "C: \ program files (x86)...."

Let us know if these infos are ok with you.

Welcome and good luck.

Thanks Nanoukmetal, Now Myst starts and goes into a blank blue/black screen and freezes there. At this point I have disc 1 in the CD reader. I have a new computer with Gforce9500GS, Intel Quad core Q9400, and plenty of memory so I thought it should be compatible???
Any new ideas? Never knew this was going to be this hard. LOL
