I mentioned elsewhere that I'm going to need to update the drivers for my GeForce FX 5200 in order to play Myst V with any degree of stability. Mr. Zebe D recommended the 77.77 drivers, and since it's been a while since I did a driver swap, I wanted to ask how best to do it. Hopefully I can get to that this evening and resume the adventure! (Although a blue screen of death is adventurous too, one's enough, thanks.)

uninstall the old drivers. this can be done through the control panel => add/remove programs. reboot. install new drivers. reboot.

Shortly after I posted that note, I headed for the nVidia site to get the URLs for the proper driver updates so I could e-mail them to my home account. The site has the installation instructions on the download page. I'd forgotten that you could uninstall the previous set via the Control Panel. Ha. I was trying to make it harder than it really is. But then I frequently do that with Myst games too...

"Download accelerator" or "download helper" utilities should be disabled when downloading any drivers or DirectX.

Could you add "as should anti-virus software" to that? nvidia will at least prompt you if you have Norton antivirus.

Please carefully read the driver installation procedures in Myst V: Installing Video Drivers With Win XP!

Both step e.'s say in part, "Close all unnecessary applications and processes running in the background, including anti-virus software."
