Ok, I've done everything suggested on this forum.
and all I can see is the intro video, then it goes to a blank screen. I can move the cursor/arrow but that's it. Escape works however. So, do you think it's my graphic card? AMD 760 which is ATI Radeon which is supposed to be compatible. I'm at wits end.

Other's seem to be able play on Vista.

In general,
-- a. Start Myst V: End of Ages (EoA) from a fresh boot.
----- 1. Reboot, log into Vista with full Administrator privileges, and close all open applications.
----- 2. Disable all tasks running in the background, especially anti-virus/spyware/adware/pop-up programs, task schedulers, remote system control programs (such as Microsoft NetMeeting) or other programs shown on the Windows task bar.
----- 3. If you have only a software firewall, do NOT disable it!
----- 4. Do NOT run any other programs before starting EoA.
-- b. Do NOT boot up with the EoA disc in the drive, or with a disc in any drive.
-- c. If the EoA disc autostarts when you insert it into the drive, cancel back to the Desktop.
-- d. Start the game using the EoA icon on the Desktop, NOT the menu item on the disc.


You may have a driver and/or hardware problem. Please post a DxDiag report in this topic, so that we can take a look at your system and make recommendations.
1. To start the DirectX Diagnostic Tool (DxDiag):
-- a. For Vista's Windows Classic theme, click on Start > Run, type dxdiag in the box, and click on OK.
-- b. For Vista's new themes, click on the large blue Windows "orb and logo" at the lower left corner of the screen (on the bottom taskbar), type dxdiag in the Search box, and then press Enter.
2. Let the blue bar in the lower left corner of the Dxdiag window finish crawling and disappear.

For future reference, what you have done is called "topic hijacking", that is, taking over a topic someone else with a problem has started. This is not only very bad Forum etiquette, but can also become extremely confusing if the problems turn out NOT to be the same.

In the future, even if your problem appears to be the same, please do NOT hijack topics and especially not by posting a full DxDiag report. Instead, start your own topic!

Your problem is very likely NOT the same as that of bbgilmore, who started this topic. So, if nanoukmetal's suggestion does not help, please start a new topic and post your problem details and DxDiag report in the new topic. (Starting a new topic is done by clicking on New > Discussion on the taskbar at the top of every Forum page.)

You may have "...done everything suggested on this forum", but rather than trying to determine what that includes, we'll start with the basics.

The following suggestions are basis your DxDiag report and comments in Myst V multiple problems/questions:

1. Your video chipset is integrated in the motherboard as part of the AMD 760G chipset. This may indeed be the problem, and the best you can do is install the latest video drivers.
-- a. DirectX 10 is integrated into Vista and is updated via Vista Service Packs (SP's). Since you have SP2 installed, you also have the latest version of DirectX 10.
-- b. For your motherboard, the video drivers are part of the BIOSTAR A760G M2+ chipset driver package. The latest chipset driver package from BIOSTAR is version 8.631 (VistaWin7_8631.zip), released 10/15/09, available here. If this package isn't what you have downloaded and installed, do so now.
-- c. Your video chipset is one of the Radeon HD 3000 series, and you could also try installing AMD/ATI's Catalyst 9.9 video driver package, available here for Vista 32bit systems.

2. As part of the End of Ages (EoA) uninstall process, you must first delete or rename vpd.properties. For details, see "6. Clean-boot EoA Re-install, Previous Installation" and "8. If you aren't certain whether vpd.properties is used..." under Installing and Re-Installing EoA in Myst V: Clean Boot Install/Re-install With Win XP. This information also applies to Vista, with appropriate minor changes.

There are also some Vista-related things you can try.

3. Run EoA as an Administrator.
-- a. Click on Start, then type Myst V End of Ages in the Start Search box.
-- b. In the Programs list, right-click on the EoA listing, and click on Run as administrator.
-- c. If you're asked for a password or for confirmation, type in the password or click on Continue.
-- d. Close back to the Desktop and play EoA.

4. With "run as administrator" enabled for EoA, disable the Desktop Window Manager (Aero Glass) when you play EoA.
-- a. Click on Start, then type Myst V End of Ages in the Start Search box.
-- b. In the Programs list, right-click on the EoA listing, and click on Properties.
-- c. On the Compatibility tab, click on the Disable desktop composition check box to select it.
-- d. Close back to the Desktop and play EoA.

This disables Aero Glass only when you play EoA, and Aero Glass is re-enabled when you close EoA.

5. With "run as administrator" enabled for EoA and the Desktop Window Manager disabled as above, run EoA in Compatibility Mode.
-- a. Click on Start, then type Myst V End of Ages in the Start Search box.
-- b. In the Programs list, right-click on the EoA listing, and click on Properties.
-- c. On the Compatibility tab, click on the Run this program in compatibility mode for check box to select it.
-- d. Select an operating system, and click on OK.
-- e. Close back to the Desktop and play EoA.

You may need to try all of the listed operating systems to find a setting that helps. Compatibility Mode stays active for EoA until you unselect the Run this program in compatibility mode for check box.
