OK - I am rather annoyed right now.
I have installed and played this game somewhat successfully. All drivers are up to date. The game does a random blue/white screen that discusses memory problems (what, 30gB not enough?) and provides the following error: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0xBACBBE1D, 0xB9F4BBB0, 0xB9F4B8AC) tfsnifs.sys - Address BACBBE1D base at BACAB000, Datestamp 4055fe57 As I said, I have ensured that graphics/video and DVD drive drivers are up to date, have defragged and cleaned up my disk, ensured Norton was switched off etc. All I want to do at this point is uninstall this game. It works most of the time, however I am now getting these random blue screens when I am not playing it, and I AM NOT happy that I lost 100 photos when uploading from my camera due to this blue screen business. My problem now is that I cannot uninstall. I have deleted vpd.properties, however there is no uninstall file (it seems to be missing - its icon in the Start/program files menu is that hinky 'nothingness' icon, and it is not in the folder where I installed the game). When I try to uninstall from Add/Remove Programs I get: "An error occurred while trying to remove Myst V End of Ages. It may have been already uninstalled. Would you like to remove Myst V End of Ages from the Add or Remove programs list?" When I open the splash screen from the DVD the Install and Uninstall buttons are greyed out and I cannot use them, as is the splash screen that opens when I use the desktop icon. So basically, I just want to get this software OFF my computer and any help with this would be much appreciated. |

Are you positive that your system meets at least the minimum EoA system requirements? See Myst V: System Requirements and Posting Guidelines, one of the stickied topics at the top of this Forum.
Suggestions, assuming that you're running Win XP and your system does meet requirements: 1. If you didn't install your current video driver (correct version and procedure) as detailed in Myst V: Installing Video Drivers With Win XP, try that. In particular, if you didn't remove your existing video driver before installing a new one, that could be a cause of the screen problems. A proper driver re-install might make the screen problems go away and is something you should do in any event. 2. To uninstall EoA: -- a. Reboot, and log into Windows with full Administrator privileges. -- b. Close all open applications. -- c. Using Windows Explorer, go to C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data, and delete the \Myst V End of Ages folder. -- d. Use Windows Explorer to search all of your drives for any Myst V references, to ensure that there are no stray EoA folders or files. -- e. Use Windows Explorer to search all of your drives for vpd.properties, to ensure that it's completely gone. -- f. Close Windows Explorer. -- g.Use Regedit to search your entire Registry and delete all Myst V-related entries. ----- 1. Click on Start > Run, type regedit in the Open: box, and click on OK. ----- 2. Be certain that My Computer is highlighted before you start searching, then click on Edit > Find. ----- 3. "Myst V" or "CyanWorlds" are good search terms (both without the quotes). ----- 4. If you're not familiar with Registry editing, see How to back up, edit, and restore the registry in Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. -- h. Close Regedit and reboot. 3. Now that EoA is uninstalled, try re-installing the game from a clean boot as detailed in Myst V: Clean Boot Install/Re-install With Win XP. This might make your screen problems go away - it's worth at least a try.... Heimdall Semper ubi sub ubi |
