Hi all-
I've been playing V a bit on my mac; when under OSX 10.3.n I had no trouble. However, after updating to 10.4, I am having an issue with texture lighting in which it appears "no light" falls on a surface (it's pretty dark) but it flashes on and off as I rotate my view. Also, I find the fans in my tower are running like jet engines now. Any help appreciated.. Andrew |

Try resetting EoA video options as follows.
-- a. Start EoA and click on OPTIONS and then on VIDEO options, if that's not what you're looking at. -- b. Click on Reset to Defaults, and write down where all of the sliders are positioned and which boxes are checked/unchecked. -- c. Set Video Resolution at 800x600, and uncheck the Recommended Only, Shadows, and Dynamic Reflections boxes. -- d. Set the Video Quality, Texture Quality, Antialiasing, and Anisotropic Filtering sliders all the way to the left (minimum settings). -- e. Click on Ok, then quit and restart the game. -- f. You may like the video with these settings, but if not, go back to the VIDEO options menu. -- g. Move the Video Quality slider to halfway between the left-most and middle tick marks. -- h. Click on Ok, then quit and restart the game. -- i. If you still don't like the video, go back to the VIDEO options menu. -- j. Move the Texture Quality slider to halfway between the left-most and middle tick marks. -- j. Click on Ok, then quit and restart the game. -- k. Repeat this procedure until Video Quality and Texture Quality are back to their default settings. If you get something flaky while you're doing this, go back to the previous setting of whatever you changed last. -- l. When you've got Video Quality and Texture Quality back to their default settings, use the same procedure to reset the Antialiasing and Anisotropic Filtering sliders. -- m. Recheck the Shadows and Dynamic Reflections boxes, in that order, and quitting/restarting in between changes. -- n. Finally, increase Video Resolution a click at a time. Note that the highest resolution your system can handle may not give you the best game performance and/or video quality! Heimdall Semper ubi sub ubi |

Hi Heimdall-
Thanks for the note. Unfortunately, however, the problem persists even with everything turned off.. cheers Andrew |

Further suggestions:
1. Open your video chipset's control panel, and try the following changes. -- a. Mostly, you want to set 'off' as the default, or 'controlled by application'. If there's an Advanced selection button, click on it to see more choices. In particular (but not limited to), set: ----- 1. Anisotropic filtering (AF) and antialiasing (AA) 'off'. ----- 2. AF or AA optimization 'off' or 'none'. ----- 3. Trilinear optimization to 'off' or 'none'. ----- 4. Vertical sync to 'controlled by application', or 'off' if it's initially set to 'controlled by application'. ----- 5. Image setting midway between 'performance' and 'quality'. -- b. Apply/save any changes, then exit the control panel. -- c. Play EoA. 2. Got a Radeon chipset? If so, download and install ATI's latest Catalyst video driver for Mac. (It's the same as Apple's Radeon Display Utilities Version 4.5.7.) All Catalyst drivers are available from ATI starting here. -- Click on the "+" in the left-hand pane by Drivers and Software, then on Mac OS > Mac OS Drivers and Software > Mac OS X 10.4.x > ATI DISPLAYS 4.5.7. 3. If you don't already have it, install QuickTime 7.1.3 for Mac, available here. Uninstall your current QuickTime version before installing 7.1.3. Heimdall Semper ubi sub ubi |
