When I try to go into Laki'ahn my computer shows and error message that says:
Exception type: Access Violation
Call Stack (14 levels).
I've already done all the things suggested in the Stack violation thread, and I've done the clean re-install at least twice; it still gives me the same error message every time. As far as I know, I don't have any video problems with any other programs on my computer, only with this one part of the game. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Suggestions, to do in the order shown:

In all cases, you should be logged into Windows with full Administrator privileges, especially to play EoA.

1. Did you do any of the steps under Overall Windows and Hard Disk Tune-up With Win XP in Myst V: Clean Boot Install/Re-install With Win XP? If not, you should strongly consider doing all of them.

2. In Myst V: Miscellaneous Video Problem Fixes with Win XP:
-- a. Reset your virtual memory paging file to 1024 MB, as per step 3. Reboot.
-- b. Close all unnecessary processes and applications running in the background, as per step 4, then start EoA WITHOUT rebooting.

3. Download and install the latest driver from Dell for your NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5200 video chipset. This is the "nVidia GeForce FX Go5200 Driver", R105340.EXE, version 6.14.10.7811, released 8/16/2005, 22 MB. Note the hard drive folder to which you download R105340.EXE. Do NOT use a "download accelerator" or "download helper" utility to download any driver or DirectX.

NVIDIA strongly recommends uninstalling the existing video driver before installing a new driver. This is because NVIDIA drivers are *very* unhappy about being installed over drivers other than the Windows default. If you didn't uninstall your existing video driver before installing new, that could be part of the problem.

Here's the driver installation procedure.
-- a. Log into Windows with full Administrator privileges, and close all open applications.
-- b. Install the latest release of DirectX 9.0c, available here, and reboot.
-- c. Uninstall the existing NVIDIA driver using Control Panel's Add or Remove Programs.
----- 1. Click on Start > Control Panel, then double-click Add or Remove Programs.
----- 2. In the Currently installed programs box, click on the NVIDIA driver you want to remove.
----- 3. Click on Change (or Change/Remove).
----- 4. If prompted to confirm the removal of the program, click Yes.
----- 5. Close Control Panel back to the Desktop, reboot, and log into Windows with full Administrator privileges.
-- d. If prompted, cancel the installation of the display adapter during bootup. If given a choice of default drivers to install, select 'Standard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA)'. Reboot if prompted.
-- e. Close all unnecessary applications and processes running in the background, including anti-virus software. Use Windows Task Manager to close everything except for Explorer.exe, Ctfmon.exe, and whatever your hardware needs:
----- 1. Close your Internet connection.
----- 2. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del once, and then click on Task Manager.
----- 3. Click on the Applications tab.
----- 4. Click on the desired application to highlight it.
----- 5. Click on End Task.
----- 6. Repeat this procedure until all unnecessary applications are closed.
----- 7. Click on the Processes tab.
----- 8. Click on the desired process to highlight it.
----- 9. Click on End Process.
---- 10. Repeat this procedure until all unnecessary background processes are closed. If you aren't sure which applications and processes can be safely closed, check out the AnswersThatWork Task List Programs index. The most common tasks are described, and which ones are essential and which can be safely closed are noted.

DO NOT leave your Internet connection active after doing step e., especially if you have only a software firewall. An active connection with no firewall is an open invitation to hackers!

-- f. Click on Start > Run.
-- g. Browse to R105340.EXE, and double-click on it to put it in the Open: box.
-- h. Click on OK to start installation process.
-- i. Follow the extraction Wizard's instructions. Accept the install defaults.
-- j. Reboot when prompted.

4. Download and install the latest driver from Dell for your SigmaTel sound chipset. This is the "SIGMATEL STAC 9750 AC97 Driver", R90698.EXE, version 5.10.0.3952, released 1/18/2005, 4 MB. Note the hard drive folder to which you download R90698.EXE. Do NOT use a "download accelerator" or "download helper" utility to download any driver.

Install the driver as follows:
-- a. Log into Windows with full Administrator privileges, and close all open applications.
-- b. Disable your anti-virus software.
-- c. Click on Start > Run.
-- d. Browse to R90698.EXE, and double-click on it to put it in the Open box.
-- e. Click on OK to start the installation process.
-- f. Follow the installation Wizard's instructions. Accept the install defaults.
-- g. Reboot when driver installation is complete.

5. If you still get stack errors after driver installation, do steps 2 and 5 in Myst V: Miscellaneous Video Problem Fixes with Win XP.

Had the same problem in XP. Reinstalled first but it did not work. Continued by following these steps and now it seems to have worked. Have moved past the error point in the game.
