I have no idea why this game is running so poorly on my computer. I have a decent graphics card, GeForce 6800 GT, and I meet all the requirments. Sometimes the framerate goes below 10fps! That is just unacceptable when Uru ran quite well. I closed all my background apps, defraged, downloaded the latest graphic driver and all that and no improvement. I even turned down all the settings in the game and on my graphics card and still no improvement! Any help guys?

on your system, the CPU would be a bottleneck long before the GPU. a P4 2.0 is a bit slow to work with a 6800GT. in fact, your GPU is much more powerful than just about anything else in your machine. that leads me to believe the GPU isn't the real culprit here.

look into updating your sound card driver, which is from way back in 2002... and yes, sound card drivers can and frequently do affect framerates in 3D games. in fact, it looks like you don't have an actual sound card, but instead a sound processor on your motherboard - is that correct? if it is, you might want to see look into buying an Audigy card. watch this thread:

yes, there is. right-click on the My Computer icon on your desktop. then click on [properties]. click the [hardware] tab in the window that appears. next, click the [device manager] button. in the new window, look for the entry called [sound, video and game controllers] and click the "+" to expand it. in the list that appears, find your soundcard and right-click on it. click on [properties]. at the bottom of the properties window, you will see "device usage" with a drop-down arrow. it should currently be set to "use this device (enable)". change it to "do not use this device (disable).

then reboot your PC and see if the game runs any differently.

No change, so I doubt it's the soundcard. The thing that bothers me is that Uru ran pretty well as did many other 3d games, I even played Doom 3 and it ran much better then this. Doesn't make sense. Hopefully a patch or some kind of fix will come out for this game soon because I really want to play and enjoy it.

For me the frame rate is "ok", through most navigation in the game. Where it drops to 4 and 5 fps is during video bits like Esher's speeches. Not a big deal, since he's so ugly I don't like to look at him anyway - ditto Yeesha. She was no prize in Uru, but here she's just scary.

One thing I suggest is to lower your screen refresh rate in your Windows/Display Properties/Settings/Advanced/Monitor tab (right-click the desktop to get there). If it's higher than 60Hz vertical refresh rate, drop it to 60Hz.
This gives your vidcard less to think about, freeing up resources for video draw rates to increase.

It helped my system noticeably running this game.

hey everyone, i'm gonna need your help. i'm sure many of u are having this same problem i'm having. i'm in the first stage of the game and after i pick up the journal and the camera and then go straight ahead into the room, i don't get to continue on forward. What happens is that my mouse control freezes and then this white image keeps popping up and blinking for about 5 minutes and then i can't seem to get back to the game where i was supposed to be at the end of the hallway to see yeesha. i need your help as soon as possible. I have a laptop hp pavilion ze5300 with a ati omega catalyst omega 2.5.67. i guess that's not the latest driver. is there a internet site where i can download the updated ati radeon drivers and then store it on a disk and then transfer it to my laptop? hope to hear from someone soon. thank u.

Wall, I'm sorry if you answered this already. But is this demo or full game?

Demo I was getting 14-26fps. Full game I got 200+fps nonstop.

lowering the refresh rate only helps if the "V Synch" option is on. V-synch forces the game engine to redraw the screen in synch with the refresh of the monitor. it eliminates "tearing" and "jaggies" in the game when you look reapidly left or right.

Mr Zebe D, i have noticed that most people are not aware of the flicker of a monitor at 60Hz. i am, and i know many people who are, but most aren't. people who can detect this are the same people who notice flicker flourescent lights that others cannot see. but you are right, even if you do not consciously notice it, having your monitor refresh rate set to below 75Hz causes a lot of eye fatigue, and isn't reccommended.

I am running the full game. The lowering of the refresh rate thing didn't do anything btw. And changing the settings in game does little to nothing. I just don't see how a game like Doom 3 can run fairly well while a game like this cannot. Seems to me that this game is poorly optimised or something.

(It's a NEC LCD screen).
I had it set to 75 Hz initially, but found that lowering the refresh rate does indeed increase my FPS noticeably, so now leave it at 60Hz.
My vidcard is an nVidia GeForce FX 5200 w/128MB. Minimal, I realize, so anything I can do to help it along improves the frame rate.

My new Alienware box should be here in about 10 days. I'll be interested in seeing how Myst V runs on that, as I have read elsewhere here that Myst V and the nVidia 6800 chipset don't get along. The new box features dual nVidia GeForce 6800 Ultra PCI-E 256MB DDR3 with SLI. So if Myst V doesn't like the 6800, it's really gonna hate this - TWO of em!

Your display is an LCD, and LCDs are different from CRTs in the realm of refresh rate and refresh rate requirements. To my understanding, LCDs don't have a refresh rate per se, even though Windows assigns a refresh rate to them. CRTs on the other hand have a meaningful refresh rate because they rely on scan lines and they flicker. If you look at a CRT through a video camera or something with a live feed, you'll see the lines moving on a CRT as the screen is continuously redrawn. Look at an LCD with the same device and you'll see no lines. That is because LCDs don't redraw the image like a CRT does, which makes them "flicker free" and hence more desireable for people who work in front of computers for a large portion of their day (like me).

We don't have the luxury of LCDs at work, unfortunately. All of our monitors are 17" CRTs and my monitor at home is a 19" CRT.

I'm not sure where laptops fit into the equation.
