I get choppy video performance - only about 4 or 5 frames/sec.

Hardware:
Dell Dimension 8100
640 MB RamBus memory
Nvidia GeForce FX 5500 (Video BIOS 4.34.20.69.51, ForceWare ver. 81.98)
Soundblaster Live!
> 40GB free drive space - Completely defragged.
48X CDROM

2048 MB pagefile
No drive errors from CHKDSK or registry errors from Norton Windoctor.
All non-essential apps unloaded,
All dxdiag test passed.
All audio/video settings minimal or off - including antialiasing, etc.
I've done virtually everything but uninstall and reinstall Myst.
I've reviewed Heimdall's recommendations on "Miscellaneous Video Problems" and tried them.

I got much better performance from my GeForce 4, but it crapped out a couple weeks ago. Since it was older and only had 64 MB, I figured that my 5500 with 128 MB would be as good or better.

Help?

Suggestions, to do in the order shown.

1. Install the proper video driver for your video chipset and EoA. Note that this may not be the very latest driver version! See Myst V: Installing Video Drivers With Win XP.

2. Sound driver problems can look like video problems, so download and install the latest driver for your sound chipset. The latest driver should be available from your PC or motherboard manufacturer's website, or:
-- a. For Creative Sound Blaster products, start here.
-- b. For Turtle Beach products (Voyetra, etc.), start here.
-- c. For SiS chipsets, start here.
-- d. For AC'97, SoundMAX, etc., chipsets integrated on your motherboard, go to the motherboard or PC manufacturer's website for driver updates.

3. If necessary, make the setting changes (video and otherwise) detailed in Myst V: Miscellaneous Video Problem Fixes.

4. If none of the above help, re-install EoA from a clean boot, as detailed in Myst V: Clean Boot Install/Re-install With Win XP. Pay special attention to the steps under Overall Windows and Hard Disk Tune-up With Win XP, as well as under Installing and Re-Installing EoA With Win XP, "In general, any or all of the following may be necessary to prevent EoA installation problems".

And if none of all that helps, post a DxDiag report in this topic so that we can take a look at your system and maybe make further recommendations. See Myst V: System Requirements and Posting Guidelines, under POSTING GUIDELINES, To post a DxDiag report for a how-to. Run all of the graphics and sound tests you can before saving the report to a file, and post *all* of the file. If the manufacturer and exact model number of your PC aren't shown under 'System Information' (System Manufacturer and System Model) at the top of the report, also be certain to include that information in your post.
