I'm doing this post so all Ghost Recon fans can explain what Ghost Recon means to them and what makes it so great. Then hopefully the developers can better understand what people want out of the franchise.
Please state what you think makes Ghost Recon Ghost Recon and alos list 1 or 2 playing examples that illustrate this. For me Ghost Recom is about a combination of realism and military tactics played out in large outdoor locations. Realism and attention to detail are key for me. The more sim like the game is the better. 1 example of why I love Ghost Recon is when playing siege on Dam River Crossing. I was laid in the reeds with a silent sniper rifle. I was the last guy left and the other team had 3 guys left defending the base. I saw 2 guys lying beside each other. I shot the guy at the back first so the other guy wouldn't know he was dead ( on GR2 kill notifications didnt come up ), I then dispatched the over guy. This allowed me to flank round and shoot the last guy in the back. That to me is Ghost Recon. Another example is while playing Embassy on GRIT you would always have to control certain areas. I used to love battling my way to the embassy roof while playing Sharpshooter ( called Last man standing back then ). Another area of importance was the alleyway. Back then staying close to your spawn was suicide because you would just get overrun and then camped on. It was more fluid and tactical, plus it had more action while still remaining fair. Anyway thats mind, I'm sure lots of people will prefer GRAW or GRSS and for different reasons. But I'm curious to hear all your GR moments. |

For me personally Ghost recon games are the most enjoyable games on the market. I love the way people get their sneak on and then something gives and all hell breaks loose, I like the way with the right people team work triumphs, I like the fact that in general the community is so passionate about it. Honestly how many good games have come and gone yet GR games no matter which version always have a almost cult following.
My favorite moments (So many) would probably be. GRAW Rocky Cove, 12 player LMS, I had to nip for a toilet break just as they were launching, rushed back to the mic to call out to the squad and no answer. Then proceded to sneak around with a 468SD and take out the whole of the other team winning the round. I am sure I got bought a few virtual beers that night in the lobby. A feat I dont think I have repeated since. But the absolute best moment for me was loading up the OGR after several red x problems, about 10 minutes in after being shot countless amount of times on the first mission caves I realised that this was the start of a beautiful friendship. I played that game so many times and got several friends just as hooked. I honestly dont believe that GR games of the future will ever have the same effect as the very first, but if they take a few of the most popular recomendations of this forum, drop the Hollywood BS and 4 man team on all out war and inject back some stealth and the tension that the earlier games had I am sure we will all be following this franchise for many years to come. |

What Ghost Recon means or why I like it so much is b/c it uses real-life tactics, skill and team work. I like the intensity of the game. I like the real life motion graphics. It makes you feel like your inside the game -( thats the best part

Its impossible to satisfy its fan since "we" all want different things to be made in different ways. While other want these some others want those and others want it the classic way while others want it futuristic. UBI is simply trying to please everyone while keeping it real enough not to go astray from the main game. To me Ghost Recon is about a special unit infiltrating secretly and silently to silence the enemy, gather Intel, help those in needs, to prevent war or prevent to many fat boy eating to many chocolates hahaha I kid I kid. Thats sums it up. |

Ghost Recon for me hum?
Outside my fellow clan members… lag, DLC turned off, left-bumpering, glitching, cheating buggers with turbo-controllers and lag-switches. 08 Stockholm Red Devils |

Please kep it positive. Negativity isn't going to persuade the developers to change the direction of the game and implement our ideas.

outside of matches in gr2 and graw its been auto rifle with ots. step out and shoot. wow. exiting. playing sharpshooter on three maps. anyone can name them. with no grenades. so the guys ots peeking caint get taken out by someone with a mind. and now the latest is no sniper rifles. because the cowards dont want to get taken out from afar when they are playing peek a boo ghost recon.
also could someone discribe this lag switch. i know about the standby on the original box on CERTIAN games but this lag SWITCH that i hear about all the time. could someone discribe this devious device to me. i understand there are people who cheat becasue they are not skilled enough to get the kills honest, but we are playing a video game in high definition, online, in real time, with people all over the world. nothing is perfect. ghost recon to me is everything before this cheep *** over the sholder view. |

In my experience with GRAW 2, the sniper rifles are off because they're pretty broken.. They're more effective as short-range shotgun style weapons and people just use them to run & gun...With all of the smallish maps there are only a couple of places where I'd really want a 16x zoom anyway. As long as I have the MK14 EBR I'm a happy sniper.
A lag switch is just a more refined version of the old standby thing. It temporarily interrupts your console's ability to send or receive packets from the host, so the game gets out of sync and to other players it looks like you're jumping around. But the lag switch is no match for the almighty x-ray vision corner camper hack! Oh wait, that's not a hack it's a "feature"... http://gameroom.mlgpro.com/view/EHQ0X5jZuAg.html |

I've been playing since GR1 and the thing I used to love was the idea of an elite unit comprised of the worlds elite.
Jack Stone was my favourite - 'cause he was British and cooler than Tunney - but I liked them all and thought the mixture of cultures and characters would definitely be developed in the future. It's the same story with the Rainbow series. NATO's elite have become a bad episode of Dallas SWAT. |

What Ghost Recon means to me...
When I was much younger and more hyper without the benefit of RedBull, I was into Halo and all those fast paced kind of games. But Halo didn't offer any online play and all the other games there were out at the time were all the same, even on pc. Ghost Recon was different and it stood out for me, I loved playing Rainbow Six on Pc but I wanted to fight in the woods more. Then Ghost Recon cam along buy the same guy who create Rainbow so I thought hey, it should be pretty good. The thing that I liked about Ghost Recon the most was the enviroments and how vast and open they were compared to other games that were out. I also liked the fact that it was a slower paced, more realistic, game that mimics what warfare is somewhat like. Me being an avid war movie junky and avid shooter of collector firearms I was intrigued by the idea of the idea of going and creating my own way around an obstacle, instead of having a scripted version done for me. Granted that the graphics weren't the best in the world compared to other games, but this game tromped other games in gameplay an connectivity. But that lack of clarity gave it an atmosphere of a fog of war that other game developers try to create but were unsuccessful, just so happens this game did it better by accident. But if graphics are going to be the main point of a game instead of a game then game publishers should start to make movies instead, they would be more succesful. The sheer amount of weapons that were offered in the game at first was excellent. Granted that all were all pretty mch the same, with the same amount of damage and recoil, but the fact of the matter was that we had a choice. The thing I liked about the weapons most in Ghost Recon is that it wasn't arcady, unlike GRAW/2, in that all your bullets converage on a single spot on full auto. The controls helped alot being intuitive single action button sequences instead of press and hold to toggle a menu to peform an action. Granted that games have gotten alot more complex with more options available to the player, but this is a war game that time spent fumbling around with the controller to navigate a menu gets virtual people killed. Movement in Ghost Recon was perfect up until GRAW with its grid movement. I like the preciseness that the game offered so I could slowly crawl through a bush an stop when I'm not moving the stick. I wanna move an inch not a foot or two, If I wanted to move a foot or two I'll move it myself not by some gay grid system. To go along with graphics, controls, and movement I submit to you the First person view. Granted it wasn't what I expected at first lacking a gun model in the screen but the floating recticle became second nature after some time. To me this is what Ghost Recon is, A first person tacticle slow paced shooter. All this hype about OTS being the peripheals is a bunch of bull**** created by players who don't take the time, and don't want to, the check the area ahead. This is their excuse for being too lazy and hopped up on red bull while having the attention span of a 3 yr old in a candy store. Us old veterans did fine with the lack of peripheal vision, its called looking around. We did it quite often and peeking around corners before you just run around them helps out your team out more. Team, teamwork, these words use to mean something. They meant something in Ghost Recon because you have to rely on your tem doing their job in order for the objective to be completed. Now a days players inducted into clans are recruited based on their individual score rather than what they contributed to the team. Back in the day to get on a team in Ghost Recon you had to work well with your random teammates before you were even considered. Much like how things are doneon paintball teams now. This became more of a negative post than I originally wanted. I wanted to cite reasons what I thought Ghost Recon was, then explain why that is not the case now. To to summarize... Ghost Recon is... freedom and the ability to choose which path you want to go instead of a predetermined one. |

I have played all the GR games, I didn't get to play the OGR on line in its time but all the others.
To me GR is split in to 3 thoughts, OGR GRIT, are on there own where GR@ & GR2s.s., then GRAW1 &2. OGR & GRIT are GR , the game play in single player explains the way the game was intended, no matter how you your self choose to play. That kind of play wasn't just in rolling fields or caves it also came in to an Embassy, but the idea was the same, move in un seen, get out all as GHOSTS!! GRIT was a fantastic game, not only did it have the fields but it also started moveing in towards more city type enviroments. This was also the beginning of the RnG gamer on GR. 1 of may fav' games was on aroara (forgive my bad spelling), we had a 6 x 6 LMS game, this was a simple run like hell to get in to position then wait....see who moves first. Someone gets fed up or has to hit the head I dunno but they start slow then as there numbers start to drop they get nervous untill its 1 x 1. Now the bounderies of the maps get tested. I played my best game ever on GRs.s, the reason I say my best game isn't because of the result but the way I played the game. The map was Bunkers redux ( I think), it was a night time map and it just looked muggy. The map is a fairly small liniar map, the game, we started down 1 from the lobby. My buddies haul azz up the middle, me i'm just finishing up a smoke, when I get my headset back on i callout with no replies. NUTS!! I get on my gut and move real slow, my visability is next to zero but I did have a little hight advantage. I worked my way through nearly the whole map, before I got killed. Out of the 6 enemies my teamates killed 1, I got 4, t5he last got me. The last 1 I just got unlucky, he turned around just as I pulled the trigger, he ran up on me as I was trying to stand, BOOM!!! One of the posters mentioned, there are moments of calm where you may be stalking your prey, as they come into view you now notice the second, now your timing has to be right on get get both. From calm to an explosion of drama in just the pull of 1 trigger, haveing doubt if you will make it, knowing they did see you. The mood swings you go through in any well thought out game that is what makes online play addictive. GR is about the calm of the stalk, the buzz as you kill and the fear you feel when you no your time is near!!! |
