"Also delayed were the new Ghost Recon and I Am Alive. Once due between January and March 2010, both are now expected between April 1, 2010 and March 31, 2011."
2011......wow. They must really be doing something big to delay it to such a wide window of possible release dates. 4/1/10-3/31/11 is a huge window. They could also be restarting from scratch like what happened with Conviction and Rogue Warrior. RW is the best example of such a big delay. When Zombie studios couldn't get the map tile system to work, Bethesda hired Rebellion to completely re-do the entire game.
1. I hope Redstorm are still the ones working on GR4. 2. I hope they aren't having to re-do what they've built so far, but if they are, then I hope it's well worth the time it's going to take them to finish. I'd rather wait 2 or 3 years for a really good game, than to get a crappy game in less than 1 year.
They're going to start making it now with prototype weapons again, and then release it in 2016 when all of those weapons have been replaced with laser guns, power armor and jetpacks.
And instead of bunny outfits, we will get to dress as a stormtrooper with a force-field and portable nuke-cannon. Sounds pretty cool right? What? Oh...
Signature Cpt. Mitchell says "I'm a Ghost", as explosions go off all around and he runs over a bridge and fights a tank with an LMG... Yeah, real sneaky, I hardly noticed you were there...
Maybe they are waiting to see what benchmarks Operation Flashpoint 2 is going to make so they know what they have hurdle in order to beat it. I've heard that Codemasters created a game engine for OPFP2 in order to get those massive draw distances and spectacular graphics/physics/gameplay. Maybe Ubisoft is trying find a way to buy the use of that engine for Recon, or maybe they are trying to create their own engine for the next Recon.
Hopefully it's because they've realized they can't afford another failure. So instead of just throwing something out there to make some money off of, they're actually going to take their time and do it right. If you think waiting for the next Ghost Recon is bad, try being a Splinter Cell fan.
