if it was an earthquake wouldnt there be aid from the redcross and the national guard within 48 hours, so why would they be fighting over the water in the trailer? It makes me think that this may be some sort of attack on the united states.
I'd imagined in was a country-wide, or even worldwide, event for that very reason. I predict that this particular earthquake, which may even have been particularly strong, just happened to be the "straw that broke the camel's back", as it were, causing a nationwide/worldwide chain reaction. 'Course, I, with my halfway-through-high-school education, have no clue if that actually makes any sense :P
Well, in the trailer you can see a banner on the railway saying: www.ruaumoko.com. Ruaumoko is the ancient maori god of earthquakes. Unborn he remains in his mother's womb. His movements are the cause of earthquakes. This reference seems to imply that mystical powers might be involved in the game's current events. This means it could be worldwide or that chicago is sealed off (like central park in alone in the dark).
p.s. I've been doing some thinking and I realized I hadn't even bothered to google it. After entering ruaumoko in google I got this article. What he's referring to is this. An initiative to educate and prepare people for a possible volcano and earthquake disaster in New Zealand. New Zealand is where the Maori originate. It could be some clever reference. But it could also be a hint to the plot.
