How come most games and movies that are good or looking good take place in the states, the only games that i can think of off top of my head that was set in UK was 'The Getaway' and Resistance 1, but USA get resistance 2, the GTA Franchise (except london cos that was lame anyway), Half Life, Alone In The Dark and many more. Then movies, well new york alone has been destroyed millions of times, I Am Legend, Cloverfield, Godzilla, Day After Tommorow, GhostBusters, Deep Impact and again many more. Does anyone else want to see post apocalyptic uk in more games and movies?

Well (Dont get me wrong now)USA is a pretty big country.
You have huge cities, rainforest, tundra, actic landscape, deserts, well almost everything.
That could make it a good choice for a game because they have so much different enviroments.
Then also setting it in USA get USA attenion hehe.
Besides USA is so famous so that makes it a target for games.
Thats at least what i think.

And just a small thing.
Isnt Godzilla from Japan?
Then USA made a rip-off form it and set it in New York?
So USA destroy themself?
Lol...

Yeah your right about godzilla and your right about the size of the states and its variable climates to use in games and movies, but we have all seen america now, you cant go a day without seeing new york on tv, even in the streets there are references to america. I just think we (UK) look to america to much and seem to idolise it even though they copy most of our shows like pop idol and all that crap, and its about time that other countries were more recognized in movies like cloverfield and games like GTA, you've got farcry 2 and resi 5 coming out that are set in africa but what the hell is there in africa except desert and elephants. Just imagine a cloverfield like movie in a british city like London or Nottingham (Were im from lol) it would be great, or a GTA style game set in a more british atmosphere. Dont get me wrong i love america and everything that comes from there and one day i will go to New York and find out if it is actually like the way it is portrayed in movies and games lol. But untill then i just wanna be able to blow up my own country's turf in games and see it in movies, lol.

yh but every war game doesnt take place in the US. evry one except that ****ty game turning point. that was bad but they did go to london. imperial glory fights in britain and most medieval games. i cant think of no apocaltyptic games set here tho cos britain is proud and it doesnt want to detroy itself. therll always be a britain. and it will always be british.

it's probably more marketable to do games in the usa, also games like gta iv, only in the usa wud they allow that much freedom of expression and controversy lol

probably it also has to do with the fact that its more plausible to happen in usa, most of the stuff from games...

Well two reasons, in opinoun that is

#1 The United States are home to some of the largest, most tallest cities in the world I mean, think about it? An earthquake in the one of the largest cities in the world where the buildings arn't built to withstand an earthquake? If you saw that on the news it would be horrible to hear, but imagen being in a city that is sufferingn a major disaster. It adds to the drama.

#2 People want to feel like the place they know best is at risk, haven't you ever just wonder what would happen if YOUR city was in ruins and you were put into a situation you didn't know how to handle? Since, right now I'm assuming USA is the major market for this game, I am guessingn Ubisoft wants people drawn into the game and what better way then to destroy a USA major city that everyone knows about?

That's just what I am thinking... Please excuse my grammar.

I agree with you there, they should at least make a game like that in
CANADA
We're almost as big as America, or bigger I can't remember, we just don't have so many states (we have a few provinces), but we also have "New York" like cities, mostly like Toronto, (only been there once)
But still, a lot of crap happens in Canada too, they should make a game based here Thumbs Up

But i remember pre GTA IV relaese than citizens of new york were complainin that they had already had enough bad things happen there and they didn't want a game like gta set in there city, but they did anyway. could you imagine seein ure city in ruins or war or just havin gangters do wot gangsters do in ure city everytime you watched a film or played a game? i wouldn't like it in my home town but american game and movie makers keep destroyin theres, but still they are great films and games lol.

Alright, lets be honest here. People like seeing USA getting destroyed. It sells just as much as sex. When you see a big monster rip through one of the largest skyscrapers in NYC, your gonna get pumped. I don't see a problem with it to be honest. It's fiction. It's not real. And heck, it's just for fun. I wouldn't mind seeing a game or movie get set in Toronto but... well, lets face it... it'd be kind of boring. Besides, big US cities such as NYC and Chicago are popular and here I go back to my main point, they like seeing them get destroyed.

The actual reason why games keep destroying the United States of America is because... I dunno Indifferent No; seriously they probably do it because it's one of the biggest a most well-known countries in the world... Like what Santarus said, basically.

1: I'm canadian and let me tell ya this, our buildings dont need any monsters to fall apart, and we dont have much sky scrappers neither, so it would'nt be like:
"Sh*t, I hope this won't fall on me when i pass by it..."
2: Hum... Half Life 2 takes place in Czech Republics, by the way...
