Some good theories there.

I think I'm leaning towards natural disaster (not to flame you) but because that one fault line you saw in the trailer could in no way to that much damage so quickly to a city. If there were multiple monsters, I would go with your theory, however the monster would have to be so unbelievably large to knock down an urban buildings foundation on both sides of the street, while traveling in the middle of the road that I think it would be rather tough to defend yourself against that in the game. Also, i would be moving underground at hundreds of miles an hour to shake a coffee cup atop a mailbox when it was a good distance away. The ridge caused by the earthquake is a valid point, however if this is an earthquake it is guaranteed to be stronger than any earthquake before, and thus forth may be able to create years of plate tectonics within seconds, creating a small strike slip fault, like a downgraded San Andreas fault. Look at a picture looking down on the San Andreas Fault and you will see that upwards ridge, because of two plates moving towards each other with the tops hitting first --> /\ <---, creating this ridge. I guess we will not know until the game releases, but chances are, you're right. It is a videogame, and most videogames turn to monsters when there is no good reason for something. I think personally though, Ubisoft could break free from the pack with this one.

it aint cloverfield..
I think it's a sciencetific disaster. and you're the only-one who can save NY (or any other city for that matter) well..we'll see |

I'm not thinking this is going to be a save the city kind of thing, but it could be a psychological thriller, with Adam just trying to survive until support comes from another part of the country. Adam realizes the corruptness of the human mind and it's potential, and it affects the way he sees the world after.
Sure it's not as videogame-esque as most games, but the ending can still be climactic. It would work if Ubisoft had a great storyboard director, and knew how to balance the philosophy of the game and the action gameplay experiences (BioShock) |

ok ok, uv all seen earthquakes and stuff on tv, THEY WERE FIGHTING over water and that bloke 'adam' was happily willing to people, and it was in 6 days after it happend. they should of been saved if it was a natuaral disaster?

I myself think that it could also be a monster attack or some super force. I'm not sure if I can phrase this right but in the trailer right when the Earthquake happens u can see something moving in the ground and then the Earthquake is quickly followed. So I think it might have something to do with something happening in the ground and it effecting the outside world. I also think the water is just there to show that nearly everything is destroyed and there is no food, water, or shelter. I think Adam has a good amount and those people knew and maybe thats why they're after him. That, or they were asking for something else and Adam just distracted them with the water. That is just my theory

I think it was a natural disaster.
Here you've got one of America's biggest cities, and then all of a sudden, a lot of monsters make one massive, unified effort to destroy everything, and in six days the city is destroyed? What, is this some kind of monster war? Unless we're dealing with extremely intelligent creatures that are in a legion against Chicago, I'm pretty sure it's going to be just random, separate, uncoordinated attacks against a city. Which means that it would take a lot more than six days to do that kind of damage. You don't just destroy Chicago in six measly days unless it's a unified effort, not random. But on the other hand, nature can easily do that kind of work in that amount of time. Easily. Viruses, diseases, all that stuff spreads like wildfire. My ideas: if this game has some sort of monster race in it, they have be intelligent, they must be coordinated, which means we're tied up in some sort of Halo/Gears of War scenerio. If this game is based off of purely natural disasters, then we're tied up in a personal struggle to survive. |

i think its a terrorist attack, notice the phone call right before it happens where the phone lines basically blow.
I think I actually like the idea of a terrorist attack, when's a pure survival game based on terrorism around? And, plus, the terrorists could fulfill the goal as the wack-jobs you avoid and kill. =P
not that the terrorist idea blows, but why would people be searching for water if the terrorist were around, wouldn't people prefer to fight back. it would be quite difficult for terrorists to hold people off of every single grocery store in chicago. however not a bad idea
