Hey guys. I made this new small to medium map. The setting is an oriental temple-dojo high up in the mountains. Because of the size action will be garanteed without getting chaotic in a full room. Did my best to put in alot of detail but because of the number of occlusion blocs the performance holds out. It supports all gamemodes an can be played by all classes although the CQC-freaks will definately find what they are looking for. Here are some pics to start with. Later on I will post a layout and if possible even a video.

Please let me know what you think of the map. Your input is much appreciated.

Can't play this 'cause I'm on the 360. Based on the pictures, it looks very clean, nice architecture. It also looks like it could use a lot more cover. Maybe I'm not seeing it based on your pictures though.

My 360 Map Collection: Suspendead, Curve Damage, Doom Dome, Fatalitrees, Spherikill, Pyramayhem, Valley Ho, No Quarter, Purpose Unknown

I totally understand your concern about the cover and I think you are mainly talking about the outside area. There is more cover there but you cant see it in the 1 picture cause it's kinda hiding behind the wall there. The outside area is also mainly geared towards the longer ranged classes. The CQC guys will prefer to go indoors and cross the map through the dojo itself. There the structure of the map itself and the walls form the cover. You'll understand better once I put op a scheme showing the layout and I'll see if I can get up a pic or two showing some more cover.

As promised here is the layout of my map (and I apologize for the crudeness, I did my best with paint but it's nowhere near as beautiful as the layouts Neokinesis makes of his maps)and offcourse some new pics (some to show cover as asked, one overhead for layout and one for the atmosphere. In the layout drawing you can see the relation to a grid square side so you can get an estimate of the size of the map.

Looks good. That's a very interesting area to fight in and I bet it's a blast to play. The layout is basic enough to work, too, so balance is not an issue.

I'd suggest more contrast in the texture differences. It seems your main outdoors play area is made up of mostly urban ground, which is extremely boring if you don't detail it. Try restricting the urban ground to just pathways, with another ground color taking up the rest of the space.

Good job, though. The building looks well built.

The map plays really well, it is hard to see much of the structure / layout / detail when playing because it has a lot of constant action.

I had a look around on my own and found some areas that could be improved on.

There are some areas of raised terrain - in sort of small block raises, IMO these could have the erosion tool run over them slightly which would give a more natural feel/look.

It would not do anything for the gameplay but would look a lot better.

Maybe some of the flat areas outside could have some really slight bump-raise/lowers just to break things up the slightest bit. That's just my opinion.

Its a really fast paced map - great for quick kills and action.

I will download the updated version today, I am glad you were ok with me taking the pictures - some people get offended.

Forgotten Dojo is actually a map I wish I had worked on - It would have been a nice CooP map project. Although you did a good job yourself I had thought about some japanese type theme but it would have been totally different.

Maybe a joint map project sometime down the line?

We could call it Pain Dojo

I overlooked this line so I didn't do this yet. I changed the textures like skorpius advised but the surface is still as flat as a pooltable. I get of from work in about 2 hours and I'll get right on it so don't download it until 3 hours from now. To avoid confusion to anyone. The version that is online starting thursday 25/06/09 will be the final version. No more adjustments will be made.

Oh and sure thing about the co-op. Why not.

EDIT: The final version is now online. No more changes will be made. Thx to lampchop and scorpius for advice and comments

I had a look around the new version, I noticed you had added in some rocks and altered those flat terrain areas, the map does benefit from this IMO.

Now you just need to get online and get killing.

I absolutely love this map Acatar.I have yet to play a match on it,but i love how you created the building.I really feel like i am in Asia. The top of the roof looks kind of messed up,but it isn't easy to avoid that.

Having played this map a few times I have to say it's brilliant.

The action and flow of battle just works perfectly, I always have lots of fun.

Not just saying that because I know Acatar but because it really deserves recognition Smile
