This was the first map I ever saw of neokinesis's (back when it was Santana Row). I stumbled apon it one day while searching through in TDM. The first thing that struck me about the map was how vertical it was, and that no matter where you are in the map you get this sense of being surrounded.

Reminded me of something along the lines of Half-Life 2's City 17.

So,

Talking from experience, I've played this map well over 25 times. and I find that each time a match starts I'm faced with about 4-5 different choices.

#1 I can either take it easy and go around the long way preferable for noobs.

#2 I can go straight up the middle, guns blazing in a diamond enraged fury.

#3 I can pull out a sniper and scale the rooftops, hoping to nab a few head-shots.

#4 I can leave it all up to my team-mates as I go grab a bite to eat.

#5 Or I can wander aimlessly Shotgun in hand, scouring my screen in search for someone to stalk.

This map provides many different aspects of gameplay, It its well balanced, It Provides alot of cover, and great ammo placement.

Great map!

I was thinking serpent alley doesn't look that vertical, until I realised you were talking about santana row. I used to make some very vertical maps on timesplitters. on fc2 they are rare, most people make quite flat maps.

Your maps are amazing! What gives you such creative ideas?

Santana Row and SR Serpent Alley are the same level minus 3 major edits for speed and balance. The over all layout and buildings are the same. I believe iNF3C71ON used the word vertical to describe the easily accessible roof tops, confining towering building/wall areas, and second/third floor sniper windows that you must constantly look up at to be safe.

I don't know but thank you for the complement! I have a good group of friends with an extensive multiplayer background that I can bounce ideas off of. I am serious about creating a finished and complete experience. I love interactive medias and wish I could be part of virtual reality development. Until then, I must settle peacfully in video game media. Also, I love FPS games and often find myself discovering new real world places that I would love to battle in. Unfortunately in teh real that is close to impossible. So instead, I use the idea or impression of a place to inspire me to make something to play on.

Were you playing in the most recent version of the map? Does getting out there provide you with tactical advantage while playing? Does it feel like you are out of the map when you are no longer in it? Can you get back in after leaving?

This was a really tight map. I played it last night in my Far Out Fridays event. It was a little dificult to maneuver but It worked out pretty well for CTD.

Your comments are uplifting and motivational because I'm always looking for ways to make my maps stronger. What do you mean when you say it was difficult to maneuver?

Since the server has been down and it is rather difficult to host rooms so instead I have been working on a number of maps. One is an edit of SR Serpent Alley that will hopefully make navigating less difficult with improved terrain detailing in the APR Areas.

I found the hole. Thank you! Consider it, taken care of. Cool

I also found some ways to squeeze even more occlusion blocks into the level and the map will be re-released as 'Serpent Alley' if/when the FarCry2 Servers are restored.

For anyone that was following this thread, I was finally able to upload the map with the new name 'Serpent Alley' just a few minutes ago.
