I was going back and forth between optimizing Dread Chronicles and fine tuning UNS Substation after a few plays when I decided to take a break from performance tuning, which is very tedious and can be slow going to get it just right.
I decided to make a quick little map; a prequel to UNS Substation. I removed 99% of the building, leaving only a few outer wall panels. I then erected some steel, popped some footings in and scattered all kinds of construction materials, machinery and other items fitting the theme about the site. After lots of fine terrain work, including very fine texture painting, I had a good replica of a construction site with awesome performance. The map weighs in under 28k object count, which is pretty darn low. The map even has more playing area than UNS Substation due to the removal of almost all of the thick interior walls.
Here are a few screens to illustrate the site. The surrounding area is a little different from UNS Substation, but not much has changed.
Sniper, Shotty, even flamethrower plays great. Theres vehicles too, of course! I try to include roadkilling in most of my maps hehehe Also, even though the complete outer surrounding of the site is nearly the same as UNS Substation (since i just deleted the building and made a few changes to the outside) it is quite fitting. This is because UNS Substation is actually under construction at the moment.
