Hello, INF3C71ON Here
The long awaited forum appearance is here, I am happy to present to everyone... REVOLVER R3VOLU71ON First, I would like to thank neokinesis for helping me pull this project together, with great attention to game-play mechanic's. Also for the great images above. So, Yes... it is shaped like a revolver, it was a complete accident, an awesome one at that. and this is where the name comes from, "REVOLVER" for the shape, and "R3VOLU71ON" for the feel & theme of the map. The Setting, East-Coast shipping port... The day after MARDIS-GRAS!! It is a tradition during MARDIS-GRAS!! for the locals to support their favorite African War Regime by printing and hanging the propaganda from wires, Vandalizing (Spray-Painting), and plastering surfaces with posters. Gameplay, Bases may seem unbalanced but I assure you they are quite even. All weapons work well with an exception to Flame-Throwers which are utterly useless, Shotties & Snipes have the upper hand. I gotta go, so I will leave the rest up to you guys Peace! This message has been edited. No problem man! You know my love for this map doesn't only come from its gameplay but from the number of hours conversing about your plans. I remember your excitement with it being Number 1 for ranked matches, and its quick climb to the top. I am glad to help because it just felt so unfair to see all these other map making promoters and still no Revolver on the forums. Thank you again for the acknowledgement but this ones all you, my contributions really were more inspiration then hands on. We both learned some new tricks. I'm surprized you didn't tell anyone about all the cool stuff you have in the map. So much detailing really makes the level feel complete. You got an eye and a nack to get it just right. How come no mention of the Pirate Hideout or the hidden skulls? Something I really enjoy about this map is the use of dense cover on all the docks. It's really helpful while being chased down. Turn the corner, turn around, and come charging right back at them. I have spun the tables so many times. This level is intense but comforting and after matches I always feel like I just got off a roller coaster. I have expressed this to you before but this is one of my absolute favorite Player Maps. Every game is different and you were right to stick to your guns (ha haa)with the finishing touches. Well done man, well done... I don't know, I really had trouble playing this map, I could hardly find the players shooting me. usually I am quite sneaky, but this time, despite trying my best, I still felt like a moving target
maybe it's just harder to stay hidden in a full room? |

Thank You for your opinion Fauch.
I can't expect everyone to love the map, everyones different ya know. I am assured enough by the majority of amazing responses I receive on a daily basis. This is an exceptionally well-made map. It's one of those maps that you definitely benefit from running through in your editor before jumping into a match with people who know their way around! It's a highly tactical map, and gives you lots of different team-based approaches to the various modes. It also has a very unique feel to it...it's hard to describe, but it's just different than anything else I've seen (which is a good thing).
Great work on this one! My 360 Map Collection: Suspendead, Curve Damage, Doom Dome, Fatalitrees, Spherikill, Pyramayhem, Valley Ho, No Quarter, Purpose Unknown Co-op Maps: Ciriculus Alliance http://www.ustream.tv/channel/strangerthingslive |

maybe the other players just knew the map better than me?

Fauch, indeed that might have been the case.
You might have been playing with people who have had more experience on the map. I suggest you play it through a few more times and learn things like... Spawn Locations, Tactical Advantage area's, and Cover as well. Good Luck, And I hope it works out for you so that you can enjoy the map more. It's maps like these that make you love Far Cry 2's Map Editor!
I haven't played it yet, but I'm gonna download it in just a sec. Looks damn good, and I'll check for some online games hosting this map. Looks like a great themed map, and well created. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ http://ell635-gaming.blogspot.com/ |

Aw, that’s too bad Fauch. If that is the case send me a message on xboxLIVE and I’ll go through the map with you from a tactical standpoint so you can be a stronger soldier in your next match. I host this map in every session and have gotten increasingly good at it. I’d like to say I have seen everything Revolver can offer but even as a veteran on the level I am still learning new tricks. I have lost count of how many times the Players have overwhelmingly asked me to put the same map on again. Some things that I do to stay ahead are consider a couple of these things. First I try to figure out what kind of player I am going to be in the match. Naturally being more aggressive will give you both more kills and more deaths. Playing a reserved game will keep your deaths down but it may also pull you from the action and eliminate the abundance of available targets. Since other players are often more aggressive on a level like Revolver where they don’t feel like they can stay put for very long, I also try and keep on moving and make rounds. Also, since there are a number of high towers around the map it will keep you safe from Noob Sniper user. Part of the solution in balancing the different areas was making perches and corners where players might camp, less inviting. This brings the players to the floor. But if you prefer the height, the West Tower for example has two turrets on it and fences all around. It feels fortified but is still exposed. It gives a good view of the entire map which is great during battle because the players will often spawn up there. They can get a quick look of the battlefield before descending the staircase or hurtling over the sides into the water. Since it is far enough out, most medium and short range weapons won’t quickly kill the tower campers from the ground below without giving away their locations. West Tower is prime real estate because of its advantages but needed to be weakened to balance the game. To counter balance its importance there is an Ammo Crate that serves multiple purposes. It allows Campers up there to restock while waiting but makes the player vulnerable because it can be shot at more easily then their small moving body. Since the Ammo Crate sticks through the bottom it can be hit easily from the underside as well. These Ammo Crates exist near many of the Camp-Friendly areas for this deadly double edge reason. The turrets on the towers around the map have also been placed so that their field of view is limited. If you are at the Yellow Tower or the Fishing Dock you can NOT be shot from the Turrets on the West Tower. I like running up the UFLL Dock past the Bunk House toward the West tower because you are safe from its turrets there. Instead of turning the corner and leaving myself vulnerable, I will often jump/crouch into the window on the West side of the Bunk House and use its walls as cover. Many of the higher towers have quick release drops to the ground that can be life savers in a bind. You can scale down the potted plants in the Tower or just jump off the backside over the staircase and fall down into the water to the East in the direction of the main land mass. The Yellow Tower has a flat rock formation behind it to the West over the Pirate Hideout entrance. If I get caught up there with no where to turn I will jump over the wall to the west away from the Bunk House to the rocks below. There is a slight over hang there where you can reload or heal under without being seen. I remember seeing you in a match with some of us Revolver veterans the other day and can understand how some of our experience levels could have been intimidating. I ask that you don’t give up on the level just yet, try it a couple more times without iNF3C71ON, myself, or DeathChild28 in there and see how you do against other new players. Practice makes Perfect, both playing and mapping. We all have a long way to go but there is no reason we shouldn’t be able to learn from each other along the way. Although this is not level specific, I am becoming ridiculously dangerous after discovering that most players use Auto Aim. If I know a player is using Auto Aim I can lead their bullets because I have a detailed understanding of the algorithm that tells their gun where to re-center its shots. Although my screen name has nothing to do with The Matrix, it definitely makes me fee like Mr. Anderson in the throws of battle. Auto Aim causes the gun to pull toward an invisible line that goes through the center of your target. This is helpful to know while playing levels like Revolver because there are lots of places with vertical cover. I am able to affectively hide behind small vertical objects like light posts, telephone poles, and small pill box ammo crates because I re-center my body so that while being shot at by my enemy, I am forcing their Auto Aim to hit the obstacle instead. I count their shots and attack when I know they don’t have enough bullets to finish me off. I am always counting, how long I can run before the screen gets blurry, how many shots left in my gun, how long it takes to heal. Having a solid idea of these things can help you in your matches because by being more aware you wont have to reload as often and wont get caught healing at the wrong times. Don’t forget about your teammates, find the players that play like you and run in twos so you can have more fire power. If one of you goes down, always neutralize all threats before healing a wounded soldier or heal from behind a barrier so only one of you can get shot at by the enemies. Your location is very important, as everything is an earshot (ha haa) away. Since there is such dense cover being able to use the 3D sound proves to be a huge Ally. I love turning my sound system up so that I can hear the footsteps of a pursuer trying to sneak up behind me. When I move through the level I am listening for shots from the types of guns and the materials they are hitting. If I hear wood splintering I can estimate where my opponents might be hiding because of the different surface materials used throughout Revolver. To other players it often appears that I turn around blindly and fire killing players, but really I am not relying on only my eyes when I play. Hey, went through the map on my own and the map is cleverly created and it looks like there's so many things to do, places to go, and the gameplay will probably be promising once the map becomes more memorable for me.
I'd happily join your sessions, my gamertag is ell635, so whilst you're having a session, send me a FR and an invite, because I dont see much multiplayer action, not much through player matches at least. _______________________________________________________________________________________________ http://ell635-gaming.blogspot.com/ |

well, I'm quite decent at most of what you said. except teamplay I think. you can be quite good as a lone wolf, but when you face an organized team you stand no chance.
btw, quite amazing how much you can write about a map which isn't even yours. |

Fauch, After playing many rounds on numerous maps with neokinesis, I beg to differ with what you say about an organized team. I'm not gunna say anyhing else about it other than you should come game on a map with us and you'll see for yourself. And, As for writing so much about a map that isn't even his? The map is made by INF3C71ON and neokinesis. The map is so brilliantly well made and every round i play on it i enjoy, Whether or not i am with my XBL friends. So perhaps fauch you should keep trying because once you learn the map you will begin to realize how well made and how good it plays. |

Hey!
I have to say this is one of my favorite maps. But I have notice one thing...I don't think anyone goes to the Barge. Is there a point to it? Too lazy to read the whole thread...a short answer would mean a lot to me. Keep up the good work my friend. |
