There's a map named Tropic Paradies on the Xbox360 side. The author recreated various assets from several maps, including Far Cryerstone, Jurassic Park, and Atlantis Rising. I messaged this fellow about his apparent recreations, and he turned outright defense and claimed his friend made the map instead.
It said, in his profile, that Tropic Paradies was the best map he ever made. He's either a liar, or a thief. |

exactly it would be like me taking the waterwheel from neo and infect71on's floodgate projects and putting it into a map i make.
it's obvious where it was taken from, its a very original piece that probably took a lot of work to get looking just right, now if i went out and said "i'm gonna make a waterwheel and did so using different pieces and it looked nothing like theirs is potentially flattering to the original artist, but to steal it is lame... @CIB24:
Actually, What you just described, in my eyes is not stealing. Sticking to the waterwheel, I am sure there are a few people out there who have wanted to create an Idea using a waterwheel. but just did not know how to approach making one. then they see the one Neo and INFEC7ION made. they open the editor and tear it apart to see what makes it tick, and then go and start their own map and build a waterwheel with the newfund knowledge. doing something like that is not stealing. If anything, it is a compliment to the original creator because they will recognize their handywork. Its sort of an Homage to them. In comic book terms it is known as a -swipe. That is where an artist will do a picture that is inspired by a panel or cover image that came out some time in the past. Usually they give credit to the original artist. Especially if the image is famous. Now on the flip side of this, if someone went into the same map and deleted a bunch of stuff and then put a couple of things in the map but did not really change how the map played, or just moved spawns and then claimed it as their own, well then that person is more of a thief. You have to always keep in mind that this is a game and we do not have copyrights on any of our ideas. Ideas are a dime a dozen. Its how the person building it approaches the idea that makes that version theirs. |

no no i dont think theres anything wrong with going in and dissecting a map to see how something was done, and then recreating things im talking like select the pieces of the water wheel delete everything else flatten the land and then build your own map using that exact waterwheel setup.
theres a big difference between making something similar or inspired by and using the exact piece someone else made and not asking or giving any credit [360 gamertag chrisisbored24 ] |

although it wont solve the problems i just had a thought, why not put a random signature objects into your maps, hidden away under the terrain right against the map square edge. Even if someone deletes most the objects the chance of getting the corners is slim unless they're looking for it.
For instance a tyre with a bar through it hidden under the terrain in the corner = matty map |

people wouldnt rip your maps off if they were made right, obviously someone(s) didnt agree with how your map was working. They didnt rip anything off, the users of this game have certain privilages in using UBI product including user created maps to use as there own. The only thing you have clain to is the Far Cry 2 disc and cover art. Anything posted online is fair game if you dont like it then leave read the copyright of the game next time before crying about something you have no control over, UBI has all rights to anything Far Cry related including user made maps, seems how your using its map editor so in the same way your ripping UBI off, stop crying and read the copyrights

Pretty sure everyone knows that Chipmunk. I think the main problem is less about people re-editing and modifying the map for most people and more about people just moving a spawn point and republishing the map as thier own.
Plus I think some people are needlessly worried about the republished version getting more popular than the original and them not getting any credit. Which I don't understand myself. |

yeah i think zee's correct its mainly about 2 issues.
1, are you getting recognition if you've made 90% of the map 2, the stat junkies that love to be on a top ten list losing their place because theres 2 versions of the same map sharing the total played score. keep in mind ppl can search for maps by downloaded score so halving the number between 2 versions of the same map means a map that may be easily found normally gets relegated into the abyss of mediocre maps. also is a fairly silly comment considering most maps(even the bad ones) were often made with an idea and playstyle in mind and whats good for some is not for others therefore wrong or right becomes redundant. I also believe its not a case of ubi giving ppl priviliges to do whatever they want with the editor. The fact that anyone can open another persons map stems more from the fact that ubi just couldn't be bothered doing something about it at the time ie. compress the final upload in another format that can't be re-opened by the editor. |

who is crying? i just think its a lame and lazy thing to do. i dont expect everyone to love every map i make. legally map makers have no rights to their maps and thats fine but you would think anyone with a little bit of pride and self respect wouldn't even consider swiping someone else's work and calling it their own. and to say that a map isnt "made right" and thats why someone would go in and steal it is kind of ignorant dont you think? some people love picaso others look at his work and are like WTF that looks stupid... i build my maps a certain way, i dont really like alot of sci fi stuff so you wont see me making a starwars map, i like this game because its a merc combat type game if i wanted to play in a futuristic space ship type game i'd play halo3. so i might build more combat oriented reality driven maps, where as you might like more historical fantasy type maps and so you build to what suits your taste. that doesnt mean your map is "made right" and mine wrong, and someone needs to go in and "fix" it if a map has ammo crates, and plays all game types and passes validation who am i to go in move stuff around and tell a map maker what he MEANT to make.
