Hello all, I am new to your map making community, But I would like to draw your attention to a new map I have designed...
I have put in over 20 hours of straight work into it and it is finnaly finished. It is called "Maximum Security". I think you will really like it. You should download it, give it a try, and tell me what you think or about any bugs or problems you find that I will want to fix... As you launch the map, you will find yourself on a Maximum Security Island. The map allows for Regular Death matches, Team Death Matches, Capture THe Diamond and Uprising play. THe layout is very Diverse, and every detail I could think of was concidered in its creation for the use of all battle types... I WIll Publish the Map as soon as I finish typing this message. If you can't reach me here about my map, please contact me at William_je_irwin@hotmail.com. THank you all and I hope you enjoy my efforts to bring your community a NEW GREAT MAP. |

Hi William.
Is this for PC? Can you provide a download link? Perhaps some screenshots or a fly-through? Thanks for your map-making contribution! |

This is for Pc.
If you play this on your pc, you should be able to logg in online and go to the map community link. From there you will see my map in the recently added section, and if you read this to late, you will have to search for it. I dont have a website right now, so I cant provide a direct link. But I am going to create a Dedicated server which I will leave running until enough people have tried my map for my satisfaction. The only problem is, I can create a dedicated server, BUt i cant figure out how to change the settings of that server. Any help? Well I did a search and found info on dedicated server setup and such, But I am new to all this computer lingo regarding ftp and all that so any help would be appreciated... I have a very fast computer, so i can run a dedicated server on it, I just can't figure it out on my own. Ok, I figured out the basic commands to access my server, but it wont recognize me as the admin and I cant figure out how to log into my server admin options because i have no idea what password it wants me to use... Ok, I keep getting the message "THis command can only be run on the host" when i type into the command prompt "setsetting remotepassword I searched my dedicated server details and found that the remotepassword line had no password, and I cant figure out what to do next ??? |

You really have combined 2 seperate topics into 1 thread, which normally would not be a problem. However, running a server is a very complicated task, so I will direct you here and here. Explaining how to run a server is a huge task, and most of the info you need is there; all of the basic stuff is.
Now, you have to remove the ';' from in fron of setsetting remotepassword line. That ; tells the pc to ignore that line. Add your password after that. When you go into the game you shoudl be typing admin_login 123456. It will say login succeeded if everything is done right. Now when you want to issue commands type admin_setsetting minplayers 8 or whatever. You will always have to type admin 1st if you are playing the game and hosting on 2 diff pc's. Now for your screens. if you are an aspiring mapper, screenshots are pretty much required for any degree of success. They are fairly easy to take, and taking a little extra time to advertise your map can go a long way. 1st, when you are testing in the map editor or playing in-game, pressing 'prt scr' will take a screenshot and it will automatically go into your documents>My games>Far Cry 2>screenshots folder. It should automatically create it if you dont already have it. So now you have your screens. But where to put them? Go to Photobucket or a similar photo sharing site and make an account (it free!). Now you can upload your screens to the internet. Now when you come here to advetise, copy the IMG code right from the photobucket site and paste it into your thread advertising your map. A picture is worth a thousand words, and that saying especially has meaning here. Best of luck and I will check out your work eventually. I am a host, a mapper and a harcore player so I'll get around to it soon, but not right away. Best of luck! (oh and Welcome!) |

Thanks
I created an account with Photobucket, and here are the screenshots i took from my map editor... THis is a far off overview of the security complex. THis is a far side view of the Complex. This is a closer overview of one side of the Complex. THis is an angled view of the other side of the complex. Im my map, there are many hidden passages, Tricky ways to kill your enemy without wasting bullets, and ways to bypass enemy spawns to reach your objectives... Its a complex setup, but with time, and Real player can master the tricks of my map If anyone knows of another free program like Photobucket, in which i can upload my map for others to download it, please let me know. Id like to post the link here if there is such a site |

well, visually that doesn't look very exciting. many maps have an identical visual theme.

While I can agree that it does not 'pop' visually, as you are new to the mapping community I dont see that as a first priority. Layout and gameplay should be the first things to work on, so that your maps are fun to play. When people are having fun and the combat is well balanced, they forget about the surroundings and really focus on shooting. With the clever tricks you mentioned, that sounds like it will be the case here.
Looks are always great too, but never sacrifice good gameplay and flow for visuals. Focus on the play first, then come back later with some bling for your map. |

Actually, it looks alot more visually pleasing then i gave it justice for.
I spent alot of my time working on the look, I just cant take a good picture lol |

+1 X 10 If I had more Time,Patience,, and Skill,,,I would make a AAA title every single time I have always been one for gameplay 1st,That has also rarely made a lot of my maps and efforts known. Without the visuals Alot of people will not notice all the great things you've done with a map(well it won't be noticed anyways). Until someone takes the time to play and experience everything in your map,The 1st thing judged is always the looks. Some of my friends are willing to overlook some of my shortcomings in maps because they know I focus on gameplay so much. That doesn't mean I can't improve my faults or work on improving looks or quality of the maps. But people should also recognize the efforts and focus of someones maps.. Agent00Kevin and many other experienced mappers can do that without making someone feel bad (360 maps) Coming soon "MetroMethLabs" Grid-Map "NORAD" Grid-Map "BorderWAR" "WMD's" "NuclearWinter" "NuclearWinterAssault" "MarinePatrolX3" "HellscrossingXXXCOTA" ---Uprising=Teamwork Make more Uprising based maps People!!!--- |

of course, it's the 1st thing you see. and it's quite easy to judge, once you know the possibilities of the mapmaker. understanding all the subtle opportunities offered by the gameplay of some maps requires a good analysis of the map, and there are players who will find these opportunities more easily than others who may not even find them. |
