Smile

In a perfect world, our maps would be cross-platform. But I'll make a deal with you. You buy me a screamin' PC, and I'll re-do this map for it!

Bringing up a really old thread...SHAMELESS!!

However it is with a reason. I want to try and save this poor map. Anyone who has played it, I'd love to hear the problems you had with it. Here's what I'm planning to do to try and and make it work better:

1. MORE team spawn points. I want to spread them out and have some on the upper areas.

2. Diamond stations. I don't know where, but they need to be elsewhere. Frankly, their placement just plain sucks. I'll gladly take feedback here.

3. Map navigation. There's a limited number of ways to get to the upper area, and they favor one side. This is going to be a challenge, given the serious asymmetrical layout of the map, in addition to the grid content limit I'm up against.

4. Arrows? Should I put them in? I dunno...

5. The environment around the sphere. I used a lot of the fake jungle. I wonder if I should go a different way on the surrounding, like maybe Savannah, or even Desert? hmm...

Anyhoo, I would welcome any ideas you may have. Thanks!

Not shameless at all, it really looks like something I'd like to play. I like round corridors with the windows...may have to take that lesson from you in some future sci fi map Smile

Anyhow, looks GREAT, wish I could play it. I have heard Microsoft didnt use to cover the E-74 hardware failure, but now they do. If this extends to all 360 owners, then I can get mine fixed now Angry Blue Guy crappy Microsoft hardware

Thanks Kevin.

Another thing I'm considering is to just delete EVERYTHING inside the sphere and start from scratch. One of the reasons this map ended up the way it did is because I started construction with a base on the edge, and just kept building from there. Had I been more intelligent about the whole thing, I would have started in the MIDDLE, and built outwards. I think I'm going to give that a shot and see what I come up with. It'll certainly allow me to fix a lot of problems I had the first time around, and who knows, maybe come up with something better. We'll see.

I have to admit that while the map looks good from the outside, when I'm walking in it it feels a bit maze-ish and random.

looking at the structure of the sphere, you could try a 5 branches star. a central structure in the centre of the sphere, 5 paths going to secondary structures, and many alternative paths crossing each other.
the problem is I'm not sure how that could work in ctd. in uprising, maybe you could have 2 of the secondary structures for the teams, and the 3 others for the control points.

If you just remove the spawn points from that room across from the office and also the ones near the capture point at the top, then i will be happy.

Thanks, Fauch. I'm actually working on a layout sort of like that (not 5 paths though, but something that will give me more balance than that)

Actually, there are no team spawn points near the upper capture point. I was thinking of putting a few in that room above capture point A, and then some in the room with all of the plants. That way the upper half of the map gets utilized for for game modes than just Uprising.

Now that I have gutted the sphere and completely rebuilding everything inside though, I may not bother.

OK, I took the lazy approach on this one. I just re-published as "Spherikill mkII".

More spawn points (team spawns in the upper areas), a little bit of terrain work (not much though) and platforms in the two ladder wells so you can jump down quickly instead of using the ladders without getting hurt to access the lowest area of the map. The additional spawns should make TDM actually fun now, as it's now pretty much impossible to spawn camp.

Maybe savannah or desert outside the sphere and lush tropical or jungle inside of sphere thus giving the sphere more purpose.

Hmm.....that's a good thought. I might just have to give the environment a more extreme makeover. I tried desert and didn't like it but that may be because I hadn't made the mountains around it more desert-like.
