Most of you may already know the excellent modding website modDB.
The good news is that they are hosting a map contest on PC with alienwareoffering 3 top-notch PCs to win (2000$ each, Alienware X-58 ! The challenge has already begun, and will end on January 12th 2009. All you have to do is start working on a map in FarCry 2 PC . Then you just have to register to Moddb, follow the instruction to send your map, and wait.
Your map will be judged by members of Ubisoft Dev team and members of ModDB
The 3 categories are :
"What the ...?!" to create an original experience,
"Nostalgia award" to recreate your favorite moment in gaming
"Real world landmark" to travail across the world
Maps are missing from the first map pack currently being played on the moddb server.. Is there going to be a second map pack for download at some point?
That doesn't make much sense, because while they included my North Sea map, my CN Tower map which is far more advanced, nearly to scale, and took an entire month to create, has been excluded.
It's an accurate representation of a real-world landmark, allows for the required game types, and it's balanced.. I don't understand what could possibly have been wrong with it, particularly considering that half of the maps in the contest aren't even finished.
I think it is great having a contest to really push the limits of the map makers but wouldnt it be a little more fair to the console genre to enable them to get a little "piece of the pie" I believe that it takes just as much effort in order to make great maps on consoles as much as it does on PC. I feel almost be-littled and punished for buying far cry on 360 instead of PC. If its equality and calling a game multi platform than I think all versions should be held to the same entitlements dont you?
