Check out these two vids from GC showing the CRYENGINE3 cross platform developement tool. This looks very familiar.
Hopefully they will give us an incredible Editor with CRYSIS 2 |

That's awesome!! I'm pretty sure "Sandbox" will never see the light of day on the consoles because it would be to hard for beginners to use, and there's no way that I see them being able to map all of the controls to a controller.
A watered down version of Sandbox would be a dream come true on the consoles. I just wonder why they haven't announced whether or not Crysis 2 will have an editor on the consoles or not ? For the past couple of weeks I've been playing around with the Sandbox editor for Crysis and it's pretty complex. It took me a long time to figure out the basics and I still have a lot to learn. You can do so much with Sandbox that it can be overwhelming at times. You can defiantly build some awesome maps with sandbox though. Hopefully Crytek gives us a great editor on the consoles. It seems like Crytek is trying to cover all bases with their latest engine, so I just don't see them not including a console editor because it's kinda what their known for. IMO, The PC version of Crysis has the kind of gameplay that would best suit a map editor. It's fast, intense and explosive. And best of all, It's FUN to play. I've been waiting YEARS for a "FUN" shooter to include a map editor, and Crysis 2 might just be it. I guess the worst case scenario would be consoles not having an editor and having to use Sandbox on the PC, but I'm cool with that. Fingers crossed on a console editor though lol. |

. . .Last time I checked, USB keyboards worked on both the 360 and the PS3. . .

You know as well as I do that most console users don't want to use a keyboard or mouse for ANYTHING on a console game. It kinda defeats the purpose of playing a game on a console doesn't it ? Even if it's just for the editor portion, I just don't see them forcing people to use a mouse and keyboard to make maps.
Besides, If they were to use a setup similar to the existing PC Sandbox editor on the consoles, it would be far to complex for new/Less serious mappers to make maps. It would pretty much lock out certain people from making maps because it's pretty complex. I would think Crytek would wanna make an editor for console users that's based around a controller and easy to use, kinda like the FC2 editor, but I could be wrong. In fact, I hope I'm wrong...I'd love to see the PC version of Sandbox on the consoles, but it just doesn't seem realistic to me. |

Really they could make a console Editor for CRYSIS 2 by selecting the key features and making the controls intuitive.
The FC@ Editor is set up almost perfectly. If they could do some things like put in some basic AI and allow at least asmuch as this does, well then... BTW There is a written article on ign thatmentions Timesplitters but The guy just kind of says he cannot say anything about it right now. |

Personally, I like the potential of an editor that can create maps for all three platforms.

That's pretty much what I envisioned for the Crysis 2 editor on the consoles Evil. Sandbox for the PC isn't even an editor in my eyes...I mean it is technically, but it's more like something a developer would use, not something your average gamer would use. It's just far to complex for kids and less serious mappers to create maps with. That's the main reason why I don't think Crytek will use the full blown PC version of Sandbox on the consoles(If the consoles have an editor).
I guess time will tell. The next shooter with a map editor can't come soon enough for me. |

the ability to "cook" a map to consoles has been out since at least 2007 when unreal tournament 3 came out.. the unreal pc and ps3 version are still going strong because u can use the unreal editor on pc make custome maps then cook them to ps3 for everyone to enjoy. microsoft will not allow this feature. i actually saw a video of mike capps at epic games saying that its actuall scarey with how microsft is very restrictive with xbox live and importing content. basicaly if microsoft isnt getting there share " $$$ " they will not allow it.. hopefully this changes with crysis2 but the technology has been there for a while now, just been restricted..i love my xbox but this kind of stuff is where the ps3 shines...

What was shown in those two videos was in no way shape or form, any type of editor.
That was the actual development tool that they plan to license out to other developers for use in creating multiplatform games at the same time to ease production time and development costs. IF and Editor interface for console users was created, I would much prefer that that tool be part of the engine they license out so that other developers can add an editor into whatever games they create that would have half of the work finished for them by having the interface already in place. I doubt highly that we will see anything remotely close to what those videos showed. CRYTEK's CEO really doesn't believe in Consoles as much as you may think. Also, Sandbox is not an Editor. ITs an SDK it allows full mod creation. |

IF that editor were to make its way to the consoles, it would be incredible, and Ubisoft would have one heckuva catch-up game on its hands. However, it looks like they were demonstrating the professional editing program, not an in-game editor. It's still impressive in the fact that you can use the PC tool to create maps for both the 360 and PS3. If they were to ship this Sandbox editor with the PC version, there's a possibility that people could create maps on the PC and port them over to the consoles.
Something tells me that if they do include a level editor for the console versions, it won't be this version, but will still be much better than anything we've seen so far. |

Correct. I think they will release Crysis 2 with editor for all platforms with much more options than editor for FC2 offer, because if you like or not, software evolution is still runing. But then is question how long it will takes and if they wouldnt forget about mp maps autodownloading etc etc. So we still have a lot of time to play with what we got. Or could be this some impuls for UBI to release some editor upgrade or full SDK .... ? It would be nice if so ... |

Man You guys do not read before you post do you.

Lol, you dont read mate
We both talk about what kind of editor they could release with Crysis 2. Its clear that presentation shows full SDK. Peace !! EDIT: btw - there is one more 10 minutes long video with showing CE3 in action, where Cevat say that CE3 SDK would be released for games developers next month http://xbox360.ign.com/dor/art...ek_demo2_081709.html This message has been edited.
