Words on American streets are painted like this so that they can be read while driving. They are spelled in the direction of traffic.

like ambulance have ecnalubma written on the front in some countries so it can be read when you look in your mirrors.
Things sometimes don't make sense unless your realize the logical reason behind it.

that's still a weird idea, it could be writen the usual way and it wouldn't be harder to read.

but in france it isn't written "entrée" or "sortie" in parkings, you just follow the arrows.
