Lol, I never invaded the 360, and Asylum was hated by most...but absolutely loved by a few.
Aaaaanyway, Occ blocks are my best friend. Id suggest looking at Mimic v1.2 for PC users. It is a perfect example of how to use occlusion, and not just in a one level map. This map has 3 full levels and two intermediate levels, and it runs buttery smooth. Without it, it would be laggy. Same goes for most of my maps. After 'mastering' occlusion, I went on to make some fun maps that done need it at all, an even more daunting task. Check out Shiver for PC on that one: I used lights and all, and it runs smooth as can be. In addition, object count has a high impact on FPS. I recommend 35k or less for a good start to high FPS (game recommends 40k) Too many people make awesome maps with like 150,000 object count, and almost no one can play them on anything short of optimal settings. |

Firstly, thank you guys for the quick response!
Unfortunately, I'm even more confused now! LOL... So someone said put OB INSIDE things... while another one said ONE OB must COVER the entire thing you're trying to hide, or it won't work. So, then what is the point of putting it INSIDE stuff? I would like to start using OBs... if it truly helps, but need to learn the proper usage, first. lol P.S. Thank you for bearing with me, and the patience with the 'noob questions' lol... Hell, we all gotta start somewhere, right? |

The screen above is a quick lesson on occlusion. The first block, on the left, has an occlisuion block inside it. It will not hide the big block, but the small one behind it will 'not exist' until you come to a point where the large block is no longer hiding the small one. In the middle, there is a small block with a smaller occlusion block in front of it. It will not disappear because the occlusion block in front of it isnt big enough to hide the whole thing. And last, on the right, we have a very large occlusion block in front of a much smaller concrete block. When standing on the other side of the large block, with it between you and then conrete block, the concrete block will disapper. For those who dont know, the occlusion blocks will not be blue in game. They will be invisible barriers. 3 screens below show how I have used them in an all indoor, 4 story map with 2 intermediate levels. (4 stories includes the roof) I used 30x10 occlusion blocks where possible, since they are much larger than the Platforms i used for the floors/roof. They effectively occluse the level below them, but not the one they are 'inside'. Next are 2 screens showing use of them on the ground floor, and these are even larger 30x20 blocks. The bigger, the better, because they can fully hide more that way. When standing down here, most of the upper stories 'dont exist' Here is a screen as it appears in game. Ultra high steeings, dense map, still over 40fps
