I have done extremely closed testing of VIP Mode, a new mode I happened across by messing around with the server for a while. It works perfectly, and is ready for open testing.

Its actually not hard to do, which is probably why I figured it out.

It should be extremely tactical, but can be ruined by the wrong Captain. In VIP Mode, the Captain is the key to the game. Kill the enemy captain, and its game over, you win. Your captain gets killed, you lose, that simple.

I have to be very selective of the maps used in this mode because we cant have a captain somewhere in a bush in 2 square km of countryside, now can we? And with the captain having one life to live, we cant have a kill box either. it has to be maps specially suited (or even tailored) for the mode.


VIP Mode: Kill the enemy Captain. Win the Match. Your Captain dies: You Lose.

May be fun, may be dumb, we'll just have to see

* RANKED Matches: UNS X VIP Mode [NEW!]

* The map will download from the community server, no special downloads required Just join and play.

how'd you do it? ....uprising with points outside the map border or something??

Nope, uprising witn NO poits at all anywhere on the map. If they are there it wont like it. Also, not one map in rotation can have Uprising points or it goes pffft.

Not hard, anyone can do it, but it has to be dedi.

Of course, I am definitely taking credit for discovering it is possible Smile

*use maps with NO uprising points at all, try to approve it in the editor for uprising. It doesnt matter that it doesnt validate, as long as you try

*put the maps in a dedicated server config, in Uprising Mode.

The game will still run and DL the map just fine right from the community server, no special downloads required.

Nice little Glitch to stumble across Smile

In addition, I am using a 3 map rotation during the final Testing phase. These maps are suited for the mode. There will be no extra long hunt for a well hidden captain in 5 square miles of gameplay area. Every map is confined yet has quite a few places to go to make a stand or just hide out. I am using 3 of my Urban/Downtown maps atm:

UNS Car Park VIP: Fight your way from the top of one side of the parking complex to the top of the enmy teams side to kill the captain. Very straightforward, nowhere else to really go.

Quarantine VIP: Small Downtown style map with a small parking garage and small 2 story stucture. Again, lotsa places to go, but the map fits into one default grid. Shouldnt be too long of a Search and Destroy mission

City Core VIP: Larger map, set in and around a skyscraper. 4 Floors inside the scraper and many rooms/routes to use and search.

I was very very picky in choosing maps for this mode as I said. They must be contained, and no 'I can get out of the map' glitches. Not too big, and I really prefer to use Urban settings with multi level, realistic buildings for this mode. It gives the real feeling of search and destroy with all the numerous rooms to check and places to go.

Or you could give one team have access to all three points in one room so they can capture them and hunt down one team's VIP. It creates a one-sided gametype and would work out a lot better than two-sided VIP.

You'd also have to have everyone swap teams after the game so you could start another round, best two-out-of-three, but I doubt you'd be able to get any full game to cooperate.

very good idea Skorpius Smile If this mode flops, ill try that one.

I also have plans to do a couple other special types of games. these will most likely be just one map, but may evolve into a whole new way to play.

One is loosely titled "man the .50" : I found a way to make it so the only way to capture a point is to actually man a .50 cal weapon positioned just right. You will absolutely HAVE to be manning the gun to cap the point.

It works fine, the problem is the players. They apparently dont catch on as quicly as Id hoped. Im going to run the server again tomorrow and see how it goes.
