Use this thread as a central wishlist for things you'd like to see added to the Map Editor via DLC, making it clear if your request is for [PC], [360], [PS3] or [ALL]

As is always the case, while they cant guarantee to include specific requests in an eventual DLC, they will listen to and consider them.

Please note that existing request threads, and any new ones will be closed on an 'as bumped basis'


I'll get the ball rolling...

Xbox 360
1. Functioning lights for indoor maps
2. Fix the "hollow" brushes - some brushes become almost invisible when you flip them on their side
3. Ability to place animals on the map, even if they aren't predatory
4. More paint & collection options (not everything has to be necessarily Africa-related, and there are parts of Africa that do get snow Tongue)
5. Variety of basic urban building components so we can make our own buildings - walls, floors, roofs, etc.

HAHA! The thread I've been waiting for! let's now fix the main part of the game!! Smile

- LIGHTING OBJECTS/TOOLS ON CONSOLES

- TUNNELLING TOOL (in terrain options like with the crysis editor)

- ABILITY TO HAVE WATER AT VARYING LEVELS (eg. have a 2 or more tiered river with either intelligent waterfalls or waterfall objects)

- ADD ANIMALS!

- REMOVE OR INCREASE SOME OF THE LIMITATIONS (we can't fill the given space properly)

- ALTERNATE TERRAIN TYPES AND TEXTURES

- CONTROL THE ATTITUDE OF THE WATER (eg. rough or calm)

- MORE ANIMATED OBJECTS (camp fires, smoke windmills, working fountains etc)

- DON'T RESTRICT US TO THE AFRICAN THEME (i know we can make other stuff but i would like to feel like we're being helped to do it)

- ATVs!!!

- STRONGER VEHICLES THAT CAN SURVIVE DRIVING ON MORE THAN JUST FLAT SURFACES (dune buggys that get f****d driving up a dune just doesn't make sense)

- DON'T FORGET THE WATERFALLS!

I will never stop playing this game until far cry 2 instincts is released (nudge nudge) or far cry 3 as long as the map editor contiues to increase in power and develop from its starting awesomeness... there are only so many times you can use each item

WATERFALLS!!!

i guess having bots would also be kind of cool... you could make fake missions etc to go off on with your friends don't need to set their patrols areas or anything although that would be kind of cool too... just the ability to put other people and animals into a map... i'm not really that bothered about this bit though as long as you give me WATERFALLS i will be grateful

For the PC (when limited to)

SDK is what I would opt for but shy of that I'll just add a few to the list.

*Space bar (or bindable) = camera up (raise)
C (or bindable) = camera down (lower)
(Mid Mouse Button moves cam in relation to current tilt, not in xyz axis of map.)
A brush creation and clipping tool.
and/or
Various sized wall sections.

Texture browser and aplication including scale, rotate and naturalize etc. (not talkin about the terrain painting tool)

A few various sized (2-4) water brushes.
From puddles to ponds to lakes

Mirror selection tool x y or z axis

and YES SNOW!!! Love that 1 (would also need icy rock and road, iced pond, puddle brushes etc.)

BTW glad to see this thread.

A console (~) command to reset the tool menu for those who have lost it.

Let me start off by saying that with the limitations on us PC users due to the fact we are sharing with consoles... seperate us from the consoles so our restrictions can be lifted.

A - The restrictions are utterly pathetic, for what you have set in there now... I could run more on my PSP. Majority of diehard gamers have mid-grade systems that can handle so much more then you offer in the editor...

In all honesty I feel the restrictions should be completely lifted thus giving us "unlimited possibilities". And when I say "ALL", that includes unlimited Texture Painter, Collection System, Road Textures, Vehicles, Ammo Piles and Physic Objects.

B - I am all for DLC, but was told here that there are no plans for SDK. What the deal is with not wanting to release this is beyond my comprehention. SDK would open up this game with so much more possibilities the list is endless. But in regards to the Map Editor, omg would it ever make it so much better. I mean just the thought of being able to create custom textures and other game elements is just mind boggling and leaves so much room for replayability.

Please reconsider an SDK release, I mean look at the boards and you can plainly see that there are lots of people on here just itching to make this community grow. And also might I dare say that to me personally, and SDK would make a lot of my anger and frustration disappear rather quickly considering all the problems that not only I have encountered since day 1 but also countless others... also wouldnt be suprised that others would also feel the same way.

C - A cut/copy paste option would be a nice feature rather then highlight, shift and drag.

D - The selection tool leaves a little bit to be disired... wouldnt actually be bad but considering that if your building something that takes a 100 pieces it gets real cumbersome to try and select all 100 pieces if your working in tight quarters.

Now if when building something with multiple pieces you could have the option to give each of these sets of objects their own permanent properties like locking those items together, then the selection tool would be a much better tool to work with.

E - Snap Together as well as well as hand built multiple items need to each have their own individule properties like locking them together.

F - All 7 Terrain Tools need to fixed that when your using them it doesnt move any other objects around them. It gets real tiring repositioning a million pieces each and every time these tools are used and not only that, but also doing it multiple times when your trying to get something perfect... like raising the ground a small bit so it covers the end of say a bridge and then the end of the bridge moves and your left to put it back in place... so if takes you 3 or 4 tries using multiple Terrain Tools then thats a lot of wasted time moving that single part back in its proper place... now multiply this wasted time by how many times you need to do it and figure in how big of a map your working with and how many objects you have and well... thats one heck of a chunk of time wasted.

G - Ladders should have the climbing ability applied to the entire length... if you need to sink the ladder because its not the height you need it presently becomes unclimbable... not acceptable in my book.

H - Tunneling ability is desperatly needed.

I - I could list 100's if not 1000's of more things and all in regards to items needed within Objects but that would all become "moot" if you would just release SDK.

This is for PC only since consoles have their limitations


  • A shortcut key guide would be good
  • Ability to draw solids like we can in editors such as Sandbox2 and Source SDK
  • Add more items
  • Ability to create waterfalls
  • Multiple water levels/heights
  • Ability to create tunnels etc
  • Add bases to the bottom of some objects. I tried to create a scene from 007 World is not enough. The bit where 007 shoots the gas pipe and it blows up on the chopper. But you can see through the bottom of the gas pipe.. [See image]
  • Were limited to a few textures, let us add out own
  • Ability to add our own models and textures
  • Theres no gravity until you touch the item
  • Give us some sort of trigger system/flowgraph. i.e. Player presses something defined as a button and it releases a trap. Would work wonders for creating a race track based on the film DeathRace
  • Why can we only have 6 cars, let us add more
  • You allow us to create a large map for 32 players, but we can only have servers with a maximum on 16 players. Wtf?!
  • Ladders dont work properly unless the blue boxes are positioned perfectly.
  • Ability to scale objects. I need a foot bridge to fit across a gap but I had a choice of 2. One is too big the other is still top big.
  • Let us have more than 16 physics objects but just use some occlusion technique so a player never see's more than 16 so it doesnt affect the FPS
  • Allow us to place different weapons down so you can have a deathmatch without ranks
  • Ability to create Single Player missions with some sort of flowgraph editor (Sandbox2)
  • Please Please Please release an SDK. There are people out there who want to mod this game to hell. There will even be people who will probably do stuff like make the AI better.
  • Give us an SDK!

Don't get me wrong. The map editor is a damsite easier to use than the Source SDK or Sandbox2. Something I could do in FC2 Editor in 15mins would take me an hour in the others and I love this.

However, give us some advanced options aswell so we can do more. Otherwise were just going to be seeing the same buildings over and over, the same textures over and over.

Look at CSS, the aim texture maps are a huge success. They are so simple and they include custom models and textures.
Its going to get boring, extremely fast if you dont let us do that.

Agreed pretty much with everything Evostance has listed. Carving objects and vertex manipulation would also be nice to have in the event that you do add the ability to create objects.

A few i can think of.

FOR PS3

Waterfalls - natures beauty
Mulilevels of water. for said waterfalls
Lights - playing in the dark is nice, but a bit of light please, campfires barrelfires, etc.
Easier way to make tunnels, without having to layer numbers of rocks together.
A few more elements that fall under the `destructable` end. Some objects react to being blown up with explosions, but how about fences etc, that fall with the impact, too.
Using analogue sticks isn`t the best use for acuracy, so could a function to move objects in small increments be added.
We have a windmill available, but even on a hight wind setting it doesn`t move. Strange. More objects that react and take advantage of the engines great abilities.
An option to take pictures in the map editor to advertise your map, automatically taking off the spawn point icons, etc, as you take it. Farcry was advertised by you, it stands to reason people want to advertise there map made in farcry.
When downloading maps, too much relys on guess work or looking at a two inch photo of the map. How about a decription box for people to explain there map, so we can make a choice to download. There will be loads of maps coming and it just makes it time consuming to seperate the wheat from the chaff.
The road and river vehicles available, but non drivable versions, that can be used as eye candy, so if you put it on its side the validation tool does do it`s nut cause a vehicle isn`t set right.

1. More types of houses, ruined houses, modern houses, modern buildings, office, police departments, hospitals...

2. Water falls

3. more roads, modern roads.

4.adding animals textures to the ME, so we can put animals.

5.Caves, if you make a mountain and use the cave brush, the brush will dig a hole through the mountain.

6. Passages, like the cave, you can dig through other stuff to make Passages.

1. auto sculpt, so we are able to ACTUALLY manipulate the surroundings with great detail. For instance naturall bridges on mountains, caves and and so on.
2. waterfalls.....seriously WHY CAN'T WE MAKE ANY
3. we should really be able to put water anywhere we please instead of just raising it.
4. multiplayer. I'd say the max of 2 people.
5. include more things from the campaign. for example, smoke, fire, oil spills, more than just birds flying about, more choices of rocks.
6. fully manipulate objects, for me the biggest one would be bridges. We should be able to extend then instead of having to make out gaping holes....not so big.
7. dynamic weather. Yeah, i've seen rain on ther front page of the official site, it's even in a map they've made, so why isn't there actually rain?.
6. bigger list of paint textures. I'm sick of being limited to about 4 or 5, i'd like to be able to have the same list length as the collections one.
7. bigger list of pain textures 2. i'd like other textures in too, dried up river, bed *full of cracks and sitch* red sand that's similare to the ones in south africa.
8. to have objects that arn't in the story. It'd be quite nice to be able to not be limited to the story modes choice of objects. i'd like to put in a construction yard filled with diggers and what not.
9. extend the ammount of objects to be placed in a map. As i know of, when you go into map properties, you get a choice of, small, medium and large, now. i'd think it'd be a great idea to raise up the ammount of objects we can put in if we choose large, say about to about 150/200. because i've made an abandoned quary, now thanks to the limitations of going to 100. i can't finish it. I can't put in my occlusion blocks to draw out things i want to seem far away, i want my cranes in and what use is a quary if there's no cranes, or even equipment in the buildings!!!.
10. make our own buildings.
11. lights that actually work ¬_¬.

T think everyone will agree it was extremely lazy to make a map editor in a game and not make objects... especially foundations for building totally solid. When you flip anything of substantial size on its back or look from underneath you can see right through the floor. Should someone from the Ubisoft team have noticed this before shipping. What has happened to the quality of games?

Oh yea.... caves are impossible without numerous multilayering of object rocks which looks cheap anyways.
