Greetings.

Is it necessary to complete the Mangree/camoudile puzzle to go to to the next step to completing the game? Can it be bypassed? The piece of the game is taking way too long.

Thanks,

Permriv

It is not absolutely necessary if you do not mind missing a clue for the dragon/snake puzzle in Serenia but if you do not have a saved game for Serenia, you will be stuck because you will not have access to the linking book at the end of Haven.( edited to Haven thanks to wstrohm bow )

In other words: if you like to stick to "rules", it cannot be bypassed. The camoudile will eat you. Sad

You could always read a walkthrough for that hint. Wink

Try applying the Revelation patches. For the PC version 1.02 patch, Ubisoft says, "Timing of the Mangree puzzle is tweaked to be less time sensitive."

The PC patches are available here. I recommend applying the 1.02 patch and then the 1.03 patch. The 1.02 patch is 41.1 MB, while the 1.03 patch is only 15.4 MB, which may mean there's "good stuff" included in 1.02 that isn't included in 1.03. Apply the patches as follows after installing or re-installing Revelation:
-- a. Log into Win XP with full Administrator privileges, and close all open applications.
----- 1. Download both patches to a folder, NOT to the Desktop.
-- b. Click on Start > Run.
-- c. Browse to myst4_v1.00_to_v1.02_pc.exe, and double-click on it to put it in the Open: box.
-- d. Click on OK to start the install process.
-- e. Follow the Wizard's instructions, and accept the install defaults.
-- f. Reboot when installation is complete.
-- g. Close all open applications.
-- h. Click on Start > Run.
-- i. Browse to myst4_v1.0_to_v1.03_pc.exe, and double-click on it to put it in the Open: box.
-- j. Click on OK to start the install process.
-- k. Follow the Wizard's instructions, and accept the install defaults.
-- l. Reboot when installation is complete.
-- m. Log into Win XP with full Administrator privileges, and close all open applications.
-- n. Play Revelation.

The Mac version 1.01 and version 1.03 patches are available here.

(You can skip step b to g if you don't mind not having an updated registration application.)

The link to Serenia is also made available if you have finished Spire.

Yep, you are right and I did edit the said post.

Thank you wstrohm.

Btw, following realXCV hint/lead I replayed that section (after the drawbridge) and found that it was possible to find a lever for lowering it again. I had never seen it before today and I had a hard time finding my way back to the entrance through the jungle maze. Googly Profile Blush

Subtil hint:

I do remember well the discussions we had with LynComeLately about the bridge looking like a hand when it was up. The lever after "walking/passing" that bridge is the best proof. Too Happy

Thank-you, Heimdall.

I downloaded both patches, w/o using the "run" option, directly from the Forum link. But, I am still not moving along. Do I need to use "run" to get the patch to work? I thought I was at the end of the game, when I wasn't (banging head time Smile).

PS Thank-you for your years of faithfully helping out gamers like myself.

Thanks, I'm only here to serve! Wink2

The Start > Run, etc., steps are what apply the patch. If you didn't do them, you didn't apply anything. So, you must complete the steps as written!

Note that neither patch directly does anything to advance you in the game. The version 1.02 patch, for example, changes the timing of the Mangree puzzle so that it's easier to solve, but doesn't do anything else for that puzzle.

The bridge not only looks like a hand but also moves like a hand.
