Hello everyone. I've been keeping my eyes on the Myst series for quite some time, and now am finally giving it a go.
I decided to purchase Myst IV since it was readily available at stores. Would I be able to understand this game without trying the prior ones or should I start from the beginning?
Any suggestions would be great. thx

Hi gruben32 and welcome to the Mysts and Uru forums.

The feeling of going on with a big quest would not be the same but if your are not a purist, it could be done.

Think of it, as if you intended to read a serie of four books on a story and starting from the last one. Veryhappy

Did you know that there is a Myst 10th Anniversary, DVD edition with the 3 first games in the same box (WindowsXP and Mac) available ?

Have fun.

How correct you are. Never knew they still sold the original Myst. I'll see if I can find this 3 box set online somewhere. Thanks for the quick response. bow

So... the 10th anniversary dvd box has the first 3 games? Just making sure, because I can't find a list of how the order of the games go so I know which ones to do first. Thumbs Up

Hi Penny,
The boxed set includes Myst Masterpiece, Riven and Exile. Do them in the order that I named.
Myst Masterpiece first
Riven Second
Exile Third
That will catch you up to Revelations Myst IV. As a change you can do Uru which is a Myst derivitive. It is a offshoot of the Myst Series. It is a 1st and 3rd person game. You can change back and forth. You have full range of motion, not point and go. You can run, jump and swim. It is a story with Yeesha playing an important part. There is a Complete Chronicles edition that covers three different sections of the game. Ages Beyond Myst, To D'ni and The Path Of The Shell. This game was used to start Urulive, the first one. When Urulive was closed, they made two addon's, To D'ni and The Path Of The Shell. They have all been put into the Complete Chronicles Edition. You can purchase that at Ubi.com for about $20. plus shipping. Hope that gives you something to do for awhile. Also a new Urulive will be starting in the fall, around the Holidays.

I know this thread has been dormant for awhile, but I just wanted to add that I highly recommend playing the games in order for reasons beyond possible confusion. While the graphics of Myst are beautiful and were ground-breaking in their day, compared to later games they will seem a bit dated. So I would play them in order.

I can only hope that the ending has not yet been written.
