.... or a boatwreck!?
No, I get your point. Will do Shell |

Ah, I did write that in a confusing way! What I meant was if you go back to where the tent landed, and stand where you can look at the tent hanging in the tree (you also get a magnifying glass to zoom in and view the memory of the flight), then turn 90 deg from that point. Now I'll work on writing that much more succinctly! thanks Shell |

You may not know this, but mariners have a real "thing" about people calling a "ship" a "boat."
There is no internationally accepted definition of the dividing line, people "in the know" (not me!) just avoid using either term and identify the "class" for whatever type of vessel they refer to: galleon, frigate, sloop, skiff. One amatuer states it this way: "if you can't haul it out of the water onto a trailer or a deck, it's not really a boat." The British National Maritime Museum site gives this definition: "The Historic Ships Committee have designated a vessel below 40 tons and 40 feet in length as a boat." One of the Wikipedia contributors states that the U.S. Navy's "Bluejacket's Manual" agrees with this. One thing I haven't seen in all my poking around websites to gather info about this game is someone identifying the category of vessel that has been shipwrecked on Haven - that is aside from knowing it's a ship not a boat. |

Lyn, one easy (but not universally accepted) guide is that if it carries a boat, it's a ship. That's why a submarine is a "boat." Don't know how that applies to a yacht, since typically it carries a dinghy, but then it isn't called a "boat" OR a "ship." ------------------------------------------- Fear leads to anger; anger leads to hate; hate leads to SUFFERING! - Yoda |

Yes, that is a sticking point for some people and I can understand why - I am a fan of pedantry in some parts of language use. I’ve made the change and it’ll go up in the next update.
I think I originally went with boat because of an unsubstantiated concern that people with ESL (English as a second language) would have less trouble with the word boat, than ship, which has more connotations than just a sea-faring vessel e.g. I think I refer to the ‘ship’ that takes you between the palaces on Spire. Also, for some weird reason, I think that I associated the fact the structure is (now) completely wooden with the word boat. Wooden boat sounds more correct to me than wooden ship, which makes no sense! By the way, Lyn, I fixed up my ‘drawers’ as well cheers Shell |

"Wooden boat" would be correct if it were boat-sized. But not too long ago, historically speaking, they were ALL wooden.
wstrohm, I knew about that difference too, but I also like the reverse version that I found and quoted. |
