I gave up with the game. After I reached the dream stage, I got stuck and gave up on that, went to the color wheel and wasn't getting the colors right on the wheel. got frustrated and uninstalled the game. I may go back and play it a later time, but I don't think so. Too many confusing and frustrating puzzles with Myst IV.

I have to agree with you regarding the confusing and frustrating puzzles. Even with walkthroughs getting me through the game the first time, I cannot yet solve some of the puzzles, some of which just don't "work" even when I try to copy walkthrough moves exactly, as in the monkey vs. beast problem, where the "horns" just do not do the job no matter how they are timed... until, for some reason they do. And I still don't see how some of the "clues" can be connected to the puzzles to which they are in fact connected. Maybe it's a "French" thing. Too bad, because in many ways I thought this was the best Myst game. Graphics, story line, gameplay, etc. were all great. But "hitting a wall" in Myst IV is really that. No way over, under, around or through.

Myst IV is filled with fantasic work by artists and musicians. Unfortnuately at a couple of points, the decision-makers decided that the Myst style just wasn't cool enough anymore, so they dropped in some "puzzles" that were beyond hard - just frustrating. The final puzzle (Yeesha's memories) is in my opinion not solveable in any logical way and it was very disappointing, after having loyally worked through every Myst since the first, to finally have to go to online cheats. Once I saw the walkthrough for this puzzle, I realized I never had a chance; the grouping of dialog lines onto the 5 objects was arbitrary, and one of Yeesha's sound clips was unintelligible.
98% of the game was terrific. This message has been edited. Last edited by: jimh1951, |

Agreed Gave up.
Have every Myst ever released including the URU series and have finished every game except Revelation. No problem w/ manageree puzzle and even solved Spider chair "once" but have never got past "dream". Even with walkthroughs never finished this game. It is the most beautyful but by far the hardest Myst game ever released. Maybe Ubi should make a patch. |

Well, Nichole, Ubi hasn't changed anything since 2007 when this thread was started. If you just want to see the end of the story, you can use the walkthrough available here:
walkthrough Somehow I managed to bypass the first Dream. But I had already done Haven and Spire (with a little help) and by the time I got to the color wheel, I had read a little spoiler that gave it away. It was when it got to the second dream - the dialogue puzzle - that I gave up. I thought I had it figured out, but even then the tedium of moving bits and pieces around and back to put it all together was just not worth it. Fortunately I had saved the game and I went to the walkthrough above and just did it (and the next one) so I could see the end. I highly recommend it, just so you can say you've finished the game - with a little help. |

I actually found all the puzzles relating to Dream to be very easy. I had no trouble with them at all. I found the memories puzzle to be very intuitive.
I've always had to use a walkthrough for the Spire puzzles though, even after playing the game several times. I just can't seem to wrap my head around any of them. ******************************************** I can only hope that the ending has not yet been written. ******************************************** |

ArienMalfoy,
I am extremely impressed, even more than by that person from Belgium who thought Riven was "easy." Perhaps you could next concentrate on ending world hunger! ------------------------------------------- Fear leads to anger; anger leads to hate; hate leads to SUFFERING! - Yoda |

There's absolutely no reason for you to be so snotty. What, does the fact that I found the Dream puzzles to be easy hurt your feelings somehow?
I'm also wondering why you felt a need to edit your previous post two years later. My point was that the Myst games provide such a variety of puzzles that there are bound to be some that any particular person will find really easy, and others that the same person will find almost impossible. Along the same vein, one person's easy puzzle will be another person's impossibility. As I said, I found pretty much all the Spire puzzles to be impossible, but I've met plenty of people who had no problem with them at all. In fact, most people I know had far less trouble with Spire than I did. Do I feel threatened by that? Nope. Why should I? I like the fact that the Myst games offer such a variety. It would suck if all the puzzles were of the same level, all easy or all hard. I don't mind having to use a walkthrough for some of them. In fact, I've had to use a walkthrough for every single Myst game. So get your panties out of the bunch they're in. Your reply was really overboard and uncalled for. ******************************************** I can only hope that the ending has not yet been written. ******************************************** |

Oh, dear. I think maybe Arien misunderstood wstrohm's intent.
I really don't think he was deliberately snotty at all. He just likes to tease. In my experience, it's always been lighthearted and tongue in cheek. It's just that tone is always so difficult in print. |

Yep. Thanks, LCL. Actually I did intend my first sentence as a compliment, and my second one was tongue-in-cheek. IMHO ending world hunger would probably be easier than solving the "dream" puzzles. I suppose I should be angry for being accused of wearing panties... (I edited my post 2 years later because I noticed a typo for the first time and corrected it.) Enjoy a "life walkthrough." ------------------------------------------- Fear leads to anger; anger leads to hate; hate leads to SUFFERING! - Yoda |

Well, I'm sorry if I took your post completely the wrong way. I thought that's what you were doing with mine. I've been sick and I've got two final exams this week in classes that I'm really struggling in, so I'm probably being overly sensitive myself lately.
My sincere apologies. Truce? And I did enjoy the video by the way. ******************************************** I can only hope that the ending has not yet been written. ******************************************** |
