i really really do hate to revive an old thread, but i was playing Rochefort, on my own, and.. i'm trying to defend the base but, for some odd reason, about the same time i get my tiger tank and Stug and reinforcements, it says mission failed.. or "Sabateurs at the base!"
No, there's not a single enemy in the base, just outside of it, and i'm killing everyone on the outside as well. Glitch? Bad Scripting? I don't get it.. i'm kicking butt and then mission failed for *no* reason. ANd i've completed all the objectives except for the fuel truck thingy. I captured it unharmed and parked it under the arch where the narrator said so but nothing happened so i ditched it to send the man to the front line. EDIT: I retried it a few times, saved many more times, and i defended from a few yards out past the walls and gates and that worked. Onto Louvain! |

Ive noticed on alot of posts that people are having specific trouble with getting the fuel trucks.... i've managed to accomplish this twice... it is very hard to say the least though. to manage this complex part of the mission you must first have your uniformed soldier with his Welrod pistol get in a building next to the guards by the truck... the building is connected to the fueling station that will be used shortly... 1) get your guy inside the door. 2) draw your pistol (make sure completely loaded). 3) shoot the two guards very rapidly... if this works correctly their bodies should explode as if being ran over and leave only their equipment... YOU MUST DO THIS VERY RAPIDLY!!! (make sure to save right before starting this part of the mission) and if done correctly you should see a puddle of blood and helmets and rifles... if so you should be in the clear for the hijacking. (AND FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVEN'T GOT THE TRUCKS BEFORE... THEY ARE GOING TO MAKE THE MISSION 100X EASIER IF YOU GET THEM!!! TRUST ME. (ive noticed however that sometimes there is a truck parked under the arch sometimes.... if so i can't help you there. but if not all this should help... FYI. YOU ONLY NEED TO GET 1 TRUCK. NOT BOTH!!!! and it is in your best interest to take everything from your non uniformed soldier and give it to your other... thus freeing up any loss of equipment when he drives the truck away... i wish you good luck on completing this difficult level!!

FOR ANYONE WHO DOESN'T WANT TO KNOW WHAT YOU GET FOR THE FUEL TRUCKS DONT READ!!!!!!!
AFTER you get the fuel TRUCK out of the base you wait and fight for about 10 min. or until you get to a certain place in the base. im not really sure.. but you will get a cut scene showing a german troop carrier coming through the base. the answer to your prayers!! you will get a full regiment of men (8) plus two guys that drive away with the truck and later return before the counter attacks. you desperately need to get what is in the truck as well. PANZERFAUSTS (10) GASCAN (1) RADIO MINES (15) REPAIR KIT (1-2) and when you get the men... two men automatically go for an AT cannon by the Shermans. it will need MORE ammo. it starts out with like 11 and 11 i think... something close to that!! GOOD LUCK. P.S. you will get control of those 2 guys who take the truck after they get back. and also note 2 guys will take up tower guns. 1 by the radio station and 1 by the tanks and artillery |

Lol, I killed the other guard with knife. The guy just next to him didnt do nothing, even he saw his comrade being murdered. But when I tried to pick up the knife, he called alarm and shot me. But I managed to kill him too with other knife after reloading the game. |

I finished this mission last night, after spending about 3 days on it! It must be one of the hardest and most frustrating levels on any RTS game I have played. However, the ending is superb and pretty much makes up for the frustration once you have managed to plant and explode the mines. When the Stug and Tiger appeared I let the AI control the Stug (after placing it) and I backed the Tiger up to the main entrance and took manual control of that and basically took out everything the Allies could throw at me. Total carnage, as there are burnt out tanks, vehicles and bodies all over the place come the end, the body count is akin to something like Rambo lol
There is a great sense of satisfaction though in persevering with Rochefort, as several times I was tempted to quit it and play the Allied and Russian campaign instead, pleased I didn't Bring on Louvain now |

I just noticed that you can kill soldiers in the base quite nicely with knife. They do not seem to care much if there are dead bodies liying there. I completed the Rochefort again recently and there was dead bodies all over the base, but the guards didnt do nothing. I dont know how this effects in tactical mode as I did it in Arcade mode.
You can kill the soldier guarding the railway switch, when you need to change the switch to allow the fuel train leave. Just go near him and check that there is no guards patrolling nearby and kill him with knife. Remember to throw it, dont stab! After that quickly run away. Some guards will come check what happened, but they dont do nothing if you are not there. After they leave, simply change the switch and watch the train leaving. With this method you can kill lonely guards in the base; Go behind him and throw knife at him. If you are lucky, no alarm. Someone here said this earlier, but you can kill the soldiers in barracks by putting a plant behing the house and then light it. The house will burn up and the soldiers will die. You can find some plants and tinderbox(?) in a box near the starting place. There is also small building near the southern entrance with 2 soldiers inside it. You can burn it too. This way you can eliminate lot of soldiers before the attack starts. ME-1091993 I Managed to kill the two guards, but I still get alarm when I reach the ark. Even when there is no one near. |

I had pretty much killed all the guards before the main attack started. You are right you can pretty much knife everybody, which does make life easier. I had killed all the guards at the train area, fuel dump, artillery area, communications area and so on. You can shoot a lot as well but their is a higher probability of the alarm going off. I had managed to colect 4 knives, which mean't you could kill groups of guards quite easily, as they largely don't respond to being attacked with knives (arcade mode)
I didn't bother with the fuel truck though have to say. |

Hey guys,
I only registered to tell you how I did "Rochefort", perhaps it may help anybody. It took me 5 Days to accomplish this mission, it's really hard. I was 2 or 3 times just seconds away of giving up, I was already searching for an Unlocker ;-) Ok, the stealth part isn't too hard. Look for the buildings and that's it. The part in the radio station is tough. You must kill the soldier with the MG first, then throw a knife at the other standing soldier, otherwise he runs away. The soldiers at the table aren't the problem. Problem: You have nearly no time to hit the second soldier, if you don't hurry up he's gone and the alarm sounds. The next part: The train. I nearly got nuts because of that stupid train!! Important: Sometimes the train stops at the beginning of the base. Then you have to reload your last save, that's a bug and if the train doesn't pass the small tower near the radio station, the engineer stays in the train and you can't talk to him. Important: You can not use the switch without being noticed! I tried almost everything, then I found the key. Somebody in this thread already told us that you can kill soldiers if you throw the knife. That's the trick. Wait until nobody's near the guard at the switch, then throw a knife and run away. After a minute, nobodys cares anymore about the dead body and you can use the switch. The bombs: If you don't plant the bombs exactly where are the red arrows, the mission can't be acomplished. The 2 bombs near the base entrance are no problem. Just wait until the guard leaves the tower. The garage is also easy, the game already tells you to get the tool box. When the technican starts talking to Fred, plant the bomb. At the barracks, you have to kill the cook and ring for meal, there's some kind of crowbar near the kitchen. Get it, and use it with the "iron bell". The soldiers leave the barracks and you can plant the bomb. Next thing: Fuel trucks. It was impossible for me to drive them away without being noticed. I don't know why, even when I killed the guards and nobody could see me, the alarm was triggered. A bug? But that doesn't matter. Now the important part: Before you use the trigger and the bombs explode, kill as many guards as possible. You remember the trick by throwing the knife? That works everywhere, where nobodys has a direct sight to the soldier. You can even kill the patrols, when you throw a knife at the guy who's walking behind the first one. The second knife kills his partner. I killed 35 soldiers, but it takes a lot of time. The 2 soldiers who are guarding the fuel trucks are also easy to handle. Your first soldier throws a knife and exactly at the same moment you attack the other guy with the knife of your second soldier. Save before doing this, it might take one or two times. As you already read in this thread, the counter attack by the Allies is really hard to handle. So I spent 3 hours to prepare everything. You can clear the area where the 2 tanks and some cannons are standing by using the trick with the knife. When everybody's dead, your soldiers can look at the crates for Ammunition for the AT Guns. It takes a long time, because your soldiers can't carry more than 10 shells, but when you fill up the 2 tanks (75mm Ammo) and the AT Guns (88mm Ammo), you won't have much problems with the Allies. The tanks are out of fuel, so get a can out of one of the trucks, you can fill up their fuel and "transfer" it to the tanks, by using the can. At last I took every Rocket Launcher and put it in a crate near the guns. You also find Mines in the crates, I took every single mine and used them on the streets where the enemy is coming. But the mines aren't that effective, it nearly took me 1 hour and they only damaged some tanks. Then you trigger the bombs, plant your second soldier near the fuel trucks. The bombs explode and the drivers of the fuel truck run of the house near the trucks. Kill them, get in a truck, refuel it (the screen tells you where to go) and the rest works automatically. Your attack forces are 4 soldiers and a small tank. Retreat the 4 soldiers, the tank can do the work. You already killed a lot of soldiers by using the knife, so it's no problem to defeat the rest of the Allies in the base. Give everybody of your 5 soldiers a rocket launcher, you'll need it! And if you have the time: A Bren is much better than the Mauser and MPi. When you are at the fuel station, you'll get a truck of soldiers (Because you sent out the train). Send them to the 4 AT Guns and position them near the 2 gates or at the middle. Now there are 7 soldiers left, send 4 with MG/Bren and Rocket Launchers to the trench, the other 3 soldiers get in one of the tanks. When the first enemy vehicels arrive, you'll get a Stug and a Tiger Tank, if you drove away with the fuel trucks. I positioned the Stug at the northern gate and the tiger near the Sherman at the eastern gate. The enemy has a lot of tanks! When time has come for the end, I bet most of your AT guns and tanks are messed up. So run straight ahead with your rocket launcher soldiers and attack the tanks from behind. One or two shots and they are history. The Allied Units try to go to the small tower where you talked to the engineer. Stop too much of them of getting there, or you'll lose. When you killed everyone, the mission is done. And I tell you, it feels really really good to accomplish!! Someone alread told this is the hardest mission he ever played at an RTS Game - I totally agree. |
