The folks at DMS tried to help but no success. Let me explain this to you, I have tried every suggested solution short of reformating and reinstalling windows as I can't due to the tower coming with windows installed in it and a serial number on a sticker but no cd.

Command & Conquer 3 patch 1.0009 and Company of Heroes Opposing Fronts patch 2.01.4 all play fine on my pc at max graphics. I have an arctic cooler on my 7600GT.

FoW had been freezing on occasion, sometiems one minute or twenty into starting a level or loading a level, no identifiable ingame cause. Now it freezes right after a load or level start. My pc doesn't have much in it no, I removed **** loads of stuff with it with reg cleaners, uninstaller helpers, defrag, clean-ups, and programs known to cause proiblems with games i.e. ArcGIS and dvd burners. I nearly lost my pc once when I put the 6800GS back in it to see if FoW crashes but pc won't play now with the old 6800GS. Hopefully my pc is more stable now but I cannot identify why FoW crashes neither can DMS. Can you help? I;m getting stretched thin and this game is a relaxation tool from the rigors of my PhD. I tried contacting Ubisoft and phone is expensive and I get errors every time I try to log in to ask a question in FAQ. I am cross with them for their lack of support.

I submit DXDiag and system specs below and installed programs, I want you to either identify the problem yourself, please, and find someone you know in these forums who are very technically helpful. Thank you if you can help.

It is not the VGA as it is cooled and plays other games fine. Maybe it is not supported and if so I want a patch for me and other 7600GT users. I cannot afford another VGA card.

These freezes result in a forced restart for my pc and each boot up to windows is a lucky one.

I can't see anything unusual in your dxdiag, other than the fact that your graphics card drivers are a bit old, and it might pay to check for a bios update too, you seem to have updated the sound card drivers though.
One thing, I see you have Settlers Rise of an Empire installed, if you've had no problems with that game, I'd use caution updating graphics drivers, for some reason that game doesn't seem to like some Nv drivers.
It's not likely to be something simple like an overheating graphics card, if it was that, RoaE would definitely crash too, as it's a lot more demanding than most people realise.
It's possible that the Cpu is overheating and freezing, but it's not very likely, as it wouldn't just do it in this game, your power supply might be a suspect, a failing power supply can sometimes cause instability, but unless Faces of War is putting the system under a heavier load than all your other games it's only a remote possibility.

It is not GPU overheating as it has a huge fan and a VCool cooler next to it. It is aGeforce 7600GT 512mb, that is not old. The game plays fine on my 6800gs 256mb when I reinstall that.

I put in the latest NVidia driver for 7 series cards, I think it is 163.75 and tried the beta recommended for Crysis players, both no luck.

The PSU is quite new actually, it is an Antec True Power Trio 430watts that should provide more than enough stable power for whole pc.

I don't know how to update BIOS or even what they are. My pc is not on internet.

Tested game on another pc it plays fine. DVD is clean, not scratched. Other games play fine, Stalker, Settlers 6, Command & Conquer 3, CoH Opposing Fronts.

In what way do GPU drivers seem old to you. I installed it from a disc that came with 7600GT. NVidia drivers updated but as you say GPU drivers old, how to update, help please? Where on net such files?

Settlers 6 fine on latest Nvidia driver. Don't know abotu BIOS. Settlers 6 didn't crash even before GPU was cooler assisted and small fan replaced. Even with max graphics on. It s a beautiful game.
CPU relatively new too and dual core, 2 x3.4GHz 2 x 2mb L1 cache, it should cope with FoW easily. It copes with other games fine, C & C 3 , Stalker, etc on max graphics.

Oh, can you help me with updating any drivers needed to play faces of war well, please? I have allocated a huge paging file to games so no problem there, about 5000mb.

I know it is a long shot, but I had a similar problem when I first got my Dual Core machine running FOW

I don't think the FOW code fully supports multiple core systems and some issues happen infrequently, with the game crashing or the PC freezing

Mine is an AMD x2 5500+ and I run an AMD tool which allows the system to choose wether you force it to use 1 or 2 cores with a program. I switched to one core and I have had no crashes since.

This is only for my AMD based system though, I also have a Quad Core Intel based system and that handles FOW with all the bells and whistles fine running on all 4 processers

Try updating your graphic drivers like has been mentioned, though you need to connect to the internet to get the latest drivers.

Another possible solution, as I also had a similar issue with COD 4 on my standard Single core system. It was casued by a sound card conflict.

You could try and see if that is also a possible cause

click >>Sounds and Audio Devices
click >>Advanced in the speaker section
click >>Performance Tab
Set >>Hardware Acceleration to 2nd Notch, Basic Acceleration
Click >>Apply
Click >>OK

Re-boot and run the game again.
In COD 4 the game stuttered and paused and the PC crashed every now and again and sometimes failed to load, by changing the settings of the sound card, the game now runs fine.

No. Setting sound driver to basic acceleration or setting facesofwar.exe affinity to core 1 or core 0 does not work. Let me rephrase, the game freezes exactly one second after loading a level, any, from save or new.

If you are not experienced with Bios updates, I would advise you not to update it, as any errors could result in your computer failing to boot up, but you can safely install the motherboard driver updates.
One other thing that might be worth trying, is to change the AGP to agp4x as sometimes agp8x can be unstable in certain games.

I already have that Nvidia driver although it only shows as version 6.14.xx on hardware manager.

I think it is important to mention this. The trouble started when I upgraded to 7600gt from 6800gs and 2gb ddr1 400mhz ram to 1gb ddr2 553mhz ram. Faces of War actually played fine on my dual core on the older configuration. I played FoW a very long time ago on the old system just after it got upgraded to dual core so I forgot about that, I played FoW again after upgrading to 7600gt. Thats when the freezes started, erratically then recently right after loading.

for some reason when i install mobo driver it says hardware not recognized. it is v2.0!
