Is there a way to play against the computer in a form of skirmish mode through a mod?

DCG will do a sort of Skirmish mode, it allows you to play on any of the built in maps against the computer, in a fashion.
Try a search on the this forum for the latest version, though be warned it is a standalone program which runs with FOW to give you the skirmish mode
