Hi m8, there are various cards that will work well and that YOU can install yourself with little or no problem at all.

The question is not what will run SH3, because that game is not that graphics hungry, but more of what do you intend to play in the future. Take SH4 for example, a graphics card that will just run SH3 will not run SH4.

The developers are making games that are more and more reliant on the user having the computer hardware to run it and one of the main requirements now is the quality of the videocard.

Personally I run 2 x 8800GT cards in sli mode which breeze through all the games I have at the moment, SH3/SH4, COD4, CODWAW etc. There are now cards available that run as sli from their manufacture ie the Nvidia GTX295 which is basically 2 cards in one, retailing about £300.

I am no expert but if I were to start to look to buy a new card I would not go any less than the 8800Gt and even then would want two of them. Others I have no doubt will come on and tell you the cards they use.

To sum up, don't buy a card that will only run SH3, aim you sights way way higher and buy the best card you can afford at the time and then remember....one week later it will NOT be the best card on the market....

Maverick_2007 makes a good point. Don't just buy a video card to run SHIII. Get the best video card you can afford right now. Future proof your system for games to come. Both Nvidia and ATI are making some very high end cards at the moment that are very reasonably priced.

Hello sailor,
I last posted about a year and a half ago requesting opinions on a system spec. Since then I've gone back to uni to work on a phd. I'm thinking of getting a laptop as I'm a little tired of fighting for computer time in the lab. Since I'm more budget orientated (student again >.< ) I considered something for basic word processing would do, but i re-watched The Enemy Below a few weeks back so I'm thinking I might splash a little cash and get something that should run SH3 and maybe SH4 while I relax. So I'm looking at this -

Intel® Core™2 Duo processor P7450
Windows® 7 Home Premium 64-bit
4GB DDR2 RAM (800 MHz)
NVIDIA® GeForce® G 210M (512MB)

I'm looking at £750ish with a 3 year warranty
Can you advise on the ability of this system to deal with SH4? Especially the gfx card, I can't find much online to rate it by. I haven't played as Americans in a sub sim since SH1 and I want to see how the experience has changed in the last 14 years.

Many thanks,
=)
