Hi. I'm having trouble with installing the version 1.1 patch.

I get the error, "This program cannot update the installed verion of Silent Hunter III..." because "c:\program files\ubisoft\silenthunterIII\MissionEngine.dll: unknown version"

So what does this mean? Do I have an illegal copy?

There are four different patch versions;

The EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Asia) DVD patch.

The EMEA dowloaded patch.

The USA DVD patch.

The USA downloaded patch.

Have you got the right version? Where did you buy the game an on what media.

I have the Asia Pacific version, the DVD. I bought it on eBay.

I have downloaded the patch Silent Hunter III EMEA DVD v1.0. When I run the installer I get this error:

"This program cannot update the installed version of Silent Hunter III EMEA DVD v1.0 because of the following reason:

So, does anyone know what this means? Any help, advice, or suggestions????! Do I have bum copy that just looks like the legit version?

I am having the same problem. But I have the US DVD version (bought in Chicago). I even tried both US versions of the patch (dvd & d-load) to no avail. I also tried reinstalling the game numerous times, and deleting the game files in My Documents. Help please. I am out of ideas.

I can't find the post I read it in, but somewhere here they say you simply have to rename a certain folder. Sorry, I never had this problem so I don't know the details.

Guys, I'm just uninstalling this one. I'm not that into it.

Here is an idea for you.

Do:
1. Buy DVD from retailer.
2. Install 1.1 patch.
3. Play the game.

Don't:

1. Buy bootlegged game from e-bay.
2. Install 1.1 patch.
3. Doesn't work, because crackers modified files in the game.
4. Send it back, or throw away, or continue to play unpatched version.

Yes. I think it must be a bogus version.

However, it came in a nicely sealed box with all the other materials like the map and user manual. Also a Ubisoft registration card too. I was just being cheap. I guess it does pay to get software from a more legit source. Live and learn I suppose.

However I brought this game in a proper computer shop.

Mine is the US version.

What error are you having?
Are you playing SH4 or SH3? Are you trying to patch to 1.4 if you playing SH4?
Are you using Vista or XP.

Finally managed to patch my SH3 after downloading the right patch

I am having the very same problem as well. I have a legit DVD copy and downloaded the DVD patch and it does not work.

What game are you using, SH3 or SH4?
What patch are you trying to install?
What operating system do you have, XP, Vista, Windows 7?

We need this information so we can that patch installed.

Thanks for the welcome and getting back to me so soon. I did some checking after trying the install several ways and finally happened upon the readme file which said I already have version 1.4 (SH3 btw). The disk I got must have come with the full updated version.

The version number of the game is in the bottom right when the main menu comes up. That is how it is in SH4 and I believe that is true with SH3.
